I agree, the remake cant even touch the original. The original had so many things that added that touch of realism to it, such as the radio and TV news stories talking about how this happened and what shelters to go to. The characters / actors to me in the original were just superior in every way.
Dont get wrong the remake is good (thats why I am getting it) but the original is really better as is Dawn of the Dawn. Two of my favorite horror movies

The original is a classic because it started the entire modern zombie genre, but this remake is simply a tighter, better executed example of filmmaking. It upped the ante in terms of makeup and visceral thrills, in sync with modern horror conventions much better than the original.

It works as its own movie because it deviates slightly from the original's script and tone. I typically hate modern Hollywood remakes, but NOTLD90 is one case where it worked.

IMHO I think this is a bit ridiculous ... some ebay seller already has a preorder listing for this starting at $65.

Stunning. Check out his current auctions, they're all TT blu's some of which haven't even sold out yet but he lists them at $65.00. And a 'completed auction" search on him shows someone bought a Steel Magnolia yesterday for said $65.00.

Wow, just wow. Look at his one negative feedback. His response was totally uncalled for.

They didn't care for the picture...but a funny review.

Back to the ebay thing again? Maybe the ebay sellers shouldn't be mentioned anymore. It happens with all the titles including Fright Night and it's going to keep happening.

The original is a classic but the remake is much better and more enjoyable film in my eyes. It'll always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first zombie film I owned on DVD which then triggered my need to start a zombie film collection. NOTLD90 is still my all time favourite zombie film though, nothing has quite captured that special something I get from watching this film. Can only wish that an uncut version will surface at some point.... doubt it though.

Boy, do I disagree with the latter part of this statement.

The original is a classic because it's horror masterpiece. It gets a bit of a boost because of its reputation as a kick-starter for an entire sub-genre, but it's also a great movie, one that chills the blood to this day.

The remake is, hmm, "highly competent"? "Serviceable"? "Good not great"? Hey, I enjoy the hell out of it, but I don't want to get carried away. It's a respectful, inoffensive attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle. I'm sure Savini would agree.

Someone should ebay message all those buyers and send them a link to the same items for 30.00 on Screen Archives.

I think this illustrates a truism - that context is important in defining our favourite films. I'm not sure you ever love any films more than the ones you watched when you first fell in love with cinema.

I feel sorry for those buyers (someone bought one still in stock at $120!) but really, how hard is it to be an informed consumer? I buy a lot of older titles and I search Amazon Marketplace, eBay, RightStuf (I buy a lot of anime) and then a Google search, to try and find the best price or the going price. I then buy from the source with the best price and that I feel comfortable with. These buyers have no one to blame but themselves; a simple, quick Google search finds the Screen Archives link on the first page of results.

Do people who say the original is always better (not just with NOTLD but all films that have spawned endless sequels/remakes) saying that because they believe the original is "sacred" and should never be touched? I think there's always room for improvement. Not saying the original is crap (it's not), just that it's always fun to see a different point of view. In this case, the pace is faster, the action harder and, of course, the effects stronger. It's a fun flick.

I agree. A customer that doesn't take a few minutes to do their research really has nothing to complain about.

I agree it's going to be a fast seller, given that most fans will jump on it, especially the ones that missed out on Fright Night.
