The original is a classic because it's horror masterpiece. It gets a bit of a boost because of its reputation as a kick-starter for an entire sub-genre, but it's also a great movie, one that chills the blood to this day.

The remake is, hmm, "highly competent"? "Serviceable"? "Good not great"? Hey, I enjoy the hell out of it, but I don't want to get carried away. It's a respectful, inoffensive attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle. I'm sure Savini would agree.
Right on!

These buyers have no one to blame but themselves; a simple, quick Google search finds the Screen Archives link on the first page of results.
You'd be surprised how many people aren't aware of Screen Archives. I did notice one person posted to TT's facebook page asking where they could order this from since they didn't want to pay the $65 being asked for on eBay. Actually, their facebook page has a history of people asking were they can purchase the items from. I think a part of that has to do with the obscureness of TT since they don't advertise their titles. Even a simple TT web site which lists the titles, those that are sold out, and where they can be purchased would help those that are less informed.

Well, if you do a google search for something like "Bye Bye Birdie Blu Ray", while not the first link, there is a link to Screen Archives website on the very first search result page.... so if you just do a little research, you dont have to know what screen archives is to find the title.

I think thats what they were talking about.

Also, Even all the blu ray reviews that pop up under a google search for the film state where you can buy these TT releases.... so it doesnt really take a detective to find out where to get them. Just an informed consumer

i love the original and never really cared for the sequels or this remake, or zombies in general. the original always creeped me out as do most of the classics

screen archives website looks like it was built in 1999. if i didnt know this is where to go to get these titles i would never think that was the place to offically get them. its completely amatuer. i just dont think notld90 is worth anything more then 8 bucks. i like the movie but will not buy.

Whether or not it looks like the "offical" place to get the movie or not, If i google search "Night of the Living dead (1990) Blu Ray" and i find a page that is selling this release for $29.99 (Screen Archive should usually show up on the first search page so it doesnt take a lot of digging to find it), Im going to buy it. Especially if you see others selling it on ebay for $70.....

Im not trying to say that its the most simple thing to find or that they shouldnt find a better way to market these films.... all im saying is that its not impossible to find if you have the smallest knowledge about how to use the internet. Google is your friend.

why is everybody complaining about sellers on Ebay? let them do what they want. who are you to stop them? if they want to buy a copy for 35 bucks and sell it for 150.00. let them be. nobody is forcing you to buy the copies of off them.

i wouldnt buy anything from a website that looks like it was built 10+ years ago. i simply dont trust websites that ive never heard of and if that website looks like somthing my 13 year old brother could make then im really not going to buy from them. but your right it is the first search page and if your really looking for the best price then you should be able to find that site without much trouble at all. my problem (im sure im not the only one) is i wouldnt spend any money there after i see the first page load.

Well that's the thing with NOTLD and Enemy Mine, right now anyway as it is with any of their preorders, if you google those right now they don't show up on the Screen Archives site.

I would welcome SAE posting preorder pages even if you couldn't preorder it yet. I would even like to see it taken one step further where you could preorder it as soon as it's announced and not have to wait until 3-4 weeks before release.

Well, yea... That would probably be ideal...

But I don't think you'll ever have a case where the film sells out before its released (within the preorder time frame)... So even though it would probably be best if there was at least a listing for the film as soon as possible, there's still at the very least ~ a month for people to find it before it sells out.

Look... We all know that selling exclusively through Screen Archive is going to alienate some buyers (whether they don't know about the website, don't trust the website, etc...). I guess my point is that there is no reason people should be buying movies that are still IN STOCK from eBay sellers for double what it's currently selling for. All it takes is a quick search to find out that it's still available and for a far cheaper price.

It's their fault for not doing their research and paying ridiculous prices for it... Not the eBay sellers fault.

A reasonable approach rdodolak. I'm not sure what internal order tracking mechanisms might prevent SAE from extending their pre-order window, but you're right, once those TT covers go up, the Blu-ray itself should at least be searchable via the SAE site, and ideally available for pre-order. It follows naturally that once potential buyers can actually see the thing, and read its specs, they are more inclined to get in the queue immediately, and then just forget about it until ship date.

I have no issue with retailers not honoring a true web site error but that also goes to say a retailer shouldn't intentionally post false prices with the intention of increasing traffic and then claim an error. There's a fine line between the two.

Manufacturers may offer coupons and retailers may offer lower prices to increase sales and traffic. This is something the companies chose to do but they're under no obligation to do so; the consumer isn't forcing their hand in doing so. Some third party selling these for outrageous prices (under the limited edition banner before they're even available) is simply trying to take advantage of the less informed individuals. There's no way around that. Those sellers have the right to do it but I also have the right to equally disagree with the practice. Of course potential buyers also have a right to not buy from those sellers. To each his own.

Enough banter however, unfortunately your too late since I snatched up all 3000!!!

All kidding aside, I just hope there's one copy available when I get home from traveling since there is no guarantee that I'll have access to the internet.

I always do this with TT titles. I tell myself there's no way I'd spend $30 and I regret it the second they show up for $75. What to do..?

It's starting to look like 50 people will own all the copies, and anyone who doesnt get one will get raped by the scalpers.

Who says the original is always better? I don't think anyone's going to claim that the original versions of THE WIZARD OF OZ or THE MALTESE FALCON were better. Are you implying that they're just saying it as some kind of pose?

My opinion is that the original NOTLD is better, as is the original DAWN. The remakes are fun, as you say, and have their own merits but they don't have the same atmosphere or context.

Buy it for $30 and then decide what you want to do with it.

Even if you open it, and regret buying it, you'll probably still be able to double your money once it sells out. You really can't go wrong with buying it. Worse comes to worse, you'll actually make a few dollars off of it.
