False. Twilight Time posted on Facebook that "The transfer was undoubtedly approved by the filmmakers." Sounds like Tom Savini just saw the new transfer within the past day.

They handled themselves very poorly and unprofessionally.

Tom Savini :Hey Sweetie, I just watched the Blue Ray of our NOTLD90 cause there was a complaint it looked blue. My copies are excellent and look fantastic...BUT i just want to say while watching it again, and somewhat objectively.....you were fabulous.
On this point, at least, Savini and I are of one mind.

Let's see some of you people go back and apologize now for the dozens upon dozens of outraged, ill-founded "Twilight Time sucks" posts that ended up trashing the company for something TOM SAVINI did himself.

Ridiculous, just like this thread.

That being said - I didn't see the film in the theater, however it could not be more clear this is completely divorced from the theatrical color timing. Are you honestly claiming that this is somehow more accurate to the original color grading? That's laughable. I wasn't even born when the Godfather was made but I sure as Hell am glad Robert Harris decided to stick as close as humanely possible to the original theatrical color timing when supervising the newest BD release.

During parts when the sun is blazing overhead the color timing and brightness levels have been shifted to represent a near-dusk level. In every other prior release of the film the sections ion which it is clearly bright and sunny appear as bright and sunny. It looks as it previously did with an insane filter applied.

Also, it features such horrible black crush that enormous swaths of detail are lost in areas that in every previous release of the film the shadow detail was crystal clear.

I'm not even a true fan of the film (but I have ordered nearly every TT release so far as, up until this point, the quality of their releases and their Sony releases specifically have been spectacular), I don't think it's all that great of a film, but I'm just calling a spade a spade here. It looks flat out bad, sorry buddy. Sony flat out botched this transfer.
Exactly, why are people so happy to accept a sub par release, soooo much detail is lost on soooo much of the film. I'm absolutely astounded that not 99% of the films fans aren't appalled at the PQ (that includes Tom Savini).

In fact what's to say that Tom even watches Blu-rays regularly, he may just be impressed in the overall detail in some scenes compared to the DVD. No one knows.

Regardless though, someone changed it and i'd just love to know who and why. That's all I ask but I guess I may never know

No, it sounds like he just watched it again because of the internet whining. Not for the first time...

You're aware that more than one person was involved in the making of this film? That "filmmakers" could refer to a number of different people, not just Savini (hence the plural).

The transfer was probably done so long ago anyway that even if Savini was involved, I wouldn't expect him to remember the work they did/decisions that were made.

Savini didn't change the color timing. He watched the BD at home last night (just like a bunch of us) and said it looked good.

Let's not rewrite history here. The director's happy and that makes other people happy and that's all great. But he didn't make these changes.

Pure speculation. There's nothing in his statement to indicate he was involved with the transfer or that his viewing of the BD was anything other than his first experience with it. What in that statement "sounds like he just watched it again"?

No, Savini just watched it the other day. That has ZERO impact on whether or not he was in the room when they made these changes 3-4 years ago.

He saw it and said it looked beautiful, without a mention of surprise, except perhaps that it wasn't blue like he had been told. The lack of surprise should frankly indicate he expected it to look like this. But you want to assume the other way, using assumptions.

So yeah, you and your ilk owe TT an apology.

THIS.

So if you do the Vudu/Wal Mart disc to digital for $2, you get to keep the disc, correct? Because I'll be doing that and then sell the Twilight Time disc on Amazon.

Also, has anyone compared the HDX version to the DVD? Is it a major improvement?

since I'm way to lazy to go to Wal-Mart I'll probably just buy the vudu version for $11.99

Is everyone complaining about the opening scenes in the cemetary and when Barbara finds the house ? Or the entire movie ??? I was prepared to be completely "in the dark" when she confronts the Baby Doll Zombie, but it just didn't look like that. Nor when Ben pulls up to the house in the truck.

I can see where the opening scenes now kinda look like an overcast day, as opposed to bright sunny day, but I agree with the DIRECTOR - it adds to the mood.

my 2¢
I'm sure at least some of those screenshots were doctored - make a little problem seem bigger than it is to increase the likelihood of a reissue.

I feel for you NOTLD90 super fans. Personally I have not seen the film in 10 years. So When I checked out my TT blu I thought it looked fine. I could not remember the original look. Then I saw the screen caps here and then I did remember the look of the film on DVD.

Personally it does not bother me but I don't know the film like the back of my hand. I like that it has more of a night look however I can understand why this is upsetting to people.

Since the film is more of a second or third tier movie to me I can live with it. But I hope it gets fixed for the rest of you and soon.
