Even if SAE mark their orders "GIFT" or "CUSTOMS PAID", Royal Mail STILL sometimes saddle you with a bill for import tax - they seem to do it at random.

So the director approved and this thread is still 500 more pages since my last visit. The movie looks great PQ is nice. It's darker not blue. Glad I'm not the only one seeing it this way. If you don't like it get a refund and maybe it'll go back on sell so I can grab another to collect.

And we know Tom thinks the blu-ray looks terrific, that doesn't mean he did or did not approve the transfer years back. I have to wonder, what the situation would be if Halloween had always looked like the divimax DVD or 2007 BD and suddenly was released with the correct colour timing of what we know as the 1978 release. Would people complain so virulantly, even though that's clearly the better version of the film? Would they personally attack Anchor Bay in their comments? I doubt it, but the business model does play a part here. People kind of want to feel a bit superior buying a limited edition, especially if they are buying lots and planning to sell them at hugely inflated prices. Sorry folks, markets collapsed. Maybe buy movies for movies in future. |

I watched the HDX version on a 55 inch Plasma and I also own the DVD. I think it's a decent upgrade in video quality from the DVD, but I bet the blu-ray would look better minus the blue/dark tint. Haven't seen the blu-ray yet, but I should receive it today.

Unbelievable.
First it's Savini wasn't involved and he was furious and going to check it out. Now he saw it and said he thought it was beautiful... and people are trying to decipher if this actually meant he worked on the new transfer a few years back and was actually commenting on the project he helped approve? Wow, pulling information out of thing air is fun stuff, I guess. Savini just said he thought it looked 'beautiful'. That was it. There was no hidden meaning or conspiracy theories hinted at... just that he thought it was BEAUTIFUL, guys. End of story. Now, I don't care how anyone else feels - You can hate it. You're entitled to that. But if this new transfer is good enough for the DIRECTOR of the film, then so be it. I'll keep my copy if he approves. That's not to say he thinks it's the best the film has ever looked, but I'll take it. This thread is doing loops around the crazy-coaster though, and this thread should just DIE until something more official comes along, although it's looking like Sony is telling TT 'yep, that's how it looks'. |

I have said they are 'customs friendly' and they are. There is zero chance of paying customs charges. I will say no more than that.

On a properly calibrated display the picture does not look anything like the screen captures posted. I just watched on an 8 ft projection system and did not detect the blue tint and the interior scenes held very good detail. The opening five minutes are bright but the sky is cloudy. The transition to darker, upon second viewing, is fairly gradual and believable. In my view, the darker character of the Blu-ray fits the film. The DVD is just too bright to set the mood. I appreciate the efforts of Twilight Time to bring us quality products of low sales potential films. The review by Don May and the director comments are appreciated. This type of transfer demands a good calibrated display to fully appreciate the efforts. Now that I have experienced the Blu-ray I cannot go back to the older DVD product. The screen caps and clips viewed on a computer display simply do not reflect what is seen on a good calibrated display.
