Or, alternatively, that they weren't aware... but are going to make damn_sure to do the comparisons in the future.

I don't see this as a great conspiracy theory. I think the TT folks were surprised by the reaction (and, frankly, the radical difference in the film vs. how it has always been.).

It is a perfect response. And I don't see what else they could possibly do. I bear no ill will toward TT.

That being said, I'm still very disappointed that one of my favorite films won't be sitting on my BD shelf. But I still have the DVD and I'll make sure to grab either the Amazon or Vudu HD edition at some point this month...

Perhaps, but it would have been great if we didn't have to wait till there was a screw-up before they implemented such a policy. But I suppose that's how progress is made. I personally think they should go a step further and put up actual screenshots from the disc before selling it. There would be no room for augment there. People would be aware of what they're buying ahead of time. This applies to all studios, but especially in this case where a movie has the possibility of selling out prior to release and as a result there's no time to see reviews or user impressions before buying.

Do TT titles usually get a late review on this site?

The way I read that statement it seems tinged with arrogance and I haven't liked their comments much so far. I can accept their answer however.

Yes. Since Twilight Time only produces in limited quantity, they do not send out any copies for review. Reviewers need to buy their own copies (or have one purchased for them).

Twilight Time deserve to be beaten over the head with a zombie arm until dead for releasing this film in this condition.

It's WAAAYYYY too dark, and has a strange (never-before-seen) blue tint throughout. And I should know, I've seen this film at least forty times, easily, including one session with Tom Savini doing a Q&A. I've owned each version released for home consumer use, and this transfer IS UTTER GARBAGE.

Twilight Time and Sony need to recall this, and fast. If they don't, Twilight Time (especially TT) will be cutting their own retail throats, because we horror fans do NOT forget this kind of crap. I, for one, will not buy anything from them without seeing it first ever again. If that means I pay more for a film after they've sold out of it, so be it. At least the quality will be known by then!
I'm sure missing the part where he calls Savini a "shill" and starts insulting folks...

I just watched the film and thought it was very blue and very dull but it was acceptable (just) ...then i watched the HD trailer and now i'm gutted again, it looks fantastic! rich deep colours and no annoying blue filter, god i wish the while film was like that, like HOW I remember it growing up and have watched numerous times.

I'll probably sell mine on ebay, hopefully in a few years another company will release the film as i remember it.

I'm not pissed off, i'm not gonna moan and shout ...i'm just gutted

It's in the comments to the reviews on the Blu-Ray's page, not in the forum.

"As promised, we have discussed NOTLD at the studio and are able to verify via SPE's Mastering Department, that our Blu-ray is indeed the approved transfer from 2010, generated for the film's 20th anniversary, and done in consultation with the film's director of photography. As you will have also seen on this page and elsewhere on the internet, director Tom Savini has now had a chance to view the end product and declared it "fantastic."

As we are aware that some fans of the film will remain disappointed, our offer of a full refund still stands if you wish to return your copy. However, we would caution you with this thought: this is a limited edition run of 3,000 copies, and the title is sold out. Right or wrong, it is a collector's item, and there are no guarantees this title will ever be repressed. Going forward, if TT encounters another situation where the new transfer differs greatly from the old, we will bring that to collectors' attention prior to the disc being offered so that you may know of the changes beforehand. Thanks for all your support.

Best,

Nick Redman and Brian Jamieson. "

Well, there's two choices:

Film look before 2010: Keep the DVD or buy it cheap from amazon
Film look after 2010: Keep the blu-ray from TT or buy it for tons of money on Ebay.

Me? Already return the blu-ray for a refund and keep my DVD copy

Regards,

Well, that sucks.

I have nothing whatsoever against TT, I'm just disappointed at Sony mainly for dropping the ball on this one.

I wonder if Redman or Jamieson have had a chance to see the Christine transfer yet. Hopefully it wasn't produced around the same time under the influence of the same colorist that worked on this NotLD release...

In fact what's to say that Tom even watches Blu-rays regularly, he may just be impressed in the overall detail in some scenes compared to the DVD. No one knows.

Regardless though, someone changed it and i'd just love to know who and why. That's all I ask but I guess I may never know
By now you know exactly who approved this transfer and when the transfer was done. I'm guessing the person who put the images onto the negative would be very aware of what his and his director's intentions were. Oh, well.

Their response confirms the DP's involvement. For all we know this change could have been wholly undertaken by him, rather than some trigger happy tech plebs at Sony. So Christine will hopefully remain entirely faithful.

I said this long ago - that it looked like someone was almost trying to sabotage the release because none of the caps could possibly look that dark on the disc itself - and all along many people who were actually watching the disc said that very thing.

I know in this case I sound like the conspiracy theorist, but I can't explain it otherwise. Yes, it's darker, but it's not that bad in and of itself. The only reason I can see for exaggerating it is to increase, in their minds, the likelihood of a recall.

Of course they aren't. IF they are getting rid of it, it's going up on ebay. I know people are saying this blue crap is effecting the aftermarket but they are selling for 75 to 100 right now and im sure it will only go up once the market is less flooded.

I think it will stay in that range, it won't see Fright Night pricing.

Ok peeps for what it's worth:

The image is totally NOT THAT DARK AS IN THE SCREENIES i made a gif of a well known screenie over here

http://i.minus.com/ibargDJWdCfzPt.gif

Personally i love the darkened image but what TT/Sony should have done is put both cuts on the disc, it is after all just a BD25. I never really liked the 'original' look of the flick because i always felt it wasn't atmospheric, with this cut i really got what i wanted but i also totally understand why some of you hate this decision, i would not want to see EVIL DEAD in the daylight with a few audiomistakes. I read about those here, otherwise i would not have noticed

In short, this print is not as dark as most screenies tell you, but i love it, but i also understand some of you are quite pissed off
