Anybody who is willing to stand in line to pay 25 bucks or more to get somebodies autograph is usually (not always, but usually)..........as they say in The Fantastic Mr. Fox (with hands waving in air)...different. I don't have any sympathy for those who pay 25 bucks or the "celebrities" that take part in it.

Just checking in after a couple of days and this discussion just never ends!
![]() I do have to make a statement to those on here that are trying to twist history and reality by implying that the film's opening was always supposed to be at dusk and anyone who saw it in theaters just don't remember it right. That's insane. I saw the film's opening matinee show at Graumann's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. I even ran into Tony Todd in the restroom before the show started, and he said he just came to watch the audience reaction. There wasn't much of an audience, unfortunately. And this is the FACT: The film's beginning was in BROAD daylight. No faulty memory, no faulty print. DAYLIGHT. I have always been a huge horror film fan and first saw the 1968 NOTLD at the drive-in at the age of 10 in 1971. It became my favorite film for years, and before the VHS days, I owned a full-length 8mm w/sound print of the entire film. So by the time the 1990 version came out, I was waiting to see this remake immediately, just as I did THE BLOB remake (empty theater both times I saw it), FRIGHT NIGHT, and every other horror film throughout the 80's and beyond. So when it opens in stark bright daylight, that was a big change from the original and I reacted to it. In the end, I didn't really care for the remake - it was just so-so - and I am not one who has watched it a hundred times on VHS, cable, or DVD so that has not altered my memories. In fact, I think I only have scanned through the film one other time when I bought the earlier DVD, and it looked just like it did in the theater. So stop trying to do revisionism on history. The film's first 20 minutes took place in broad daylight. These 20-30 year old 'experts' on here trying to say otherwise have no clue about anything. That all said, I looked at this new Blu and I actually PREFER it to the original 1990 version! I think they pushed the blue tint a bit too much, though, but overall, it does make the film moodier. That daylight to moonlight transition scene makes no sense now, but I do think the film is creepier now, even though it doesn't represent how it was originally presented. And if you fiddle with your TV settings, you can lower the blue tint and get the colors back, so you can almost watch it both ways on this Blu (even though it won't be quite as bright as the theatrical version was). I see both sides to this argument - ones who hate the new rendition, and those who defend it. But the thing that is not open for debate is how it originally played in theaters. It was BRIGHT DAYLIGHT, end of story. Last edited by iamnoone; 10-04-2012 at 11:23 PM. |

I just want to thank all those who have provided such an entertaining thread. I haven't been feeling well today, but reading all the hyperbole, straw grasping, character assassination and enough wild-eyed conspiracy theories to make Oliver Stone shake his head in disbelief, has brightened my day. Plus, I haven't seen this many hurt butts since the end of the cattle drive in Red River.
![]() I forget where I read it, but apparently one of the big reasons Sony has relegated so much of their back-catalog genre titles to companies like Twilight Time and the others was due to Night of the Creeps. Sony went above and beyond to put out a full-featured blu-ray release with a quality encode and lots of extras, and it sold very poorly, so they saw not enough of a market to be worthwhile to them. For NOTLD '90, it would have been nice to get some screen shots ahead of time, and hopefully Twilight Time will do that going forward, but seeing that the transfer was done with the original DP, and the Director thinks it's "Fantastic", that's good enough for me. I haven't had a chance to watch the BD yet, but I have a feeling watching it with the lights off will alleviate any darkness concerns (and heighten the horror factor). One positive I see from this fracas is that the ones who seem the most put out are the ones who complain the most about TT's business model and pricing, so if we don't have to look forward to their "contributions" in future TT threads, yay! Keeping the DVD along with the BD is a good idea. I had to do this with Bram Stoker's Dracula as the DVD's coloring matched what I saw in the theater (yes, I do remember thinking the vivid colors heightened the OTT theatricality of the film while watching in the theater). And I've also had to do it when the BD did not include the extras from the DVD, so it's not that big of a deal (at least to me). I'll still keep buying Twilight Time titles (received Enemy Mine, Swamp Water and Big Heat with NOTLD'90, to go along with the other titles I already have), and I'm looking forward to Christine and any other genre titles they want to release. Go Twilight Time! Give me more Harryhausen! |

For those not overly technical and watching with Sony b-ray players or televisions. Make sure you watch the movie in cinema mode. I dont like cinema mode myself and I hardly use it, i prefer the digital look. But for this movie, you HAVE to. You cannot, however, use the factory cinema settings. You gotta adjust them. Its easy, and it helps a lot, making it watchable by lighting up the picture and toning down the blue... but far from fixes this disaster completely. Watching it in standard mode is an absolute nightmare.

It's been on my Amazon wishlist since it was released. Never came across it in a brick and mortar store and or got around to ordering it online. It's a great B-movie horror comedy. Very Return of the Living Dead.

All I have is Target, Walmart, and Sam Goodie. None of them have much of a selection. Best Buy is about 40 minutes away so I hardly go there. I wonder if they have it in stock? This is the perfect time of the year to pick it up.

Contact SAE, and ask about purchasing one of the returned ones, it's worth a try.

I was giving it a 50/50 chance of arriving today. Hope it's tomorrow or else there's no chance until Tuesday. Interestingly, mine was also shown in Chicago on Saturday. That is different routing than my previous 10 SAE purchases. Previously, they were last shown in the U.S. as being processed out of Merrifield VA and then showed up in Canada. There has never been a stop in Chicago before. This stop in Chicago throws off my previous estimate for arrival. They used to be pretty consistent at about a week in transit. Now, I just don't know. |

For those with Panasonic Plasmas who wish to view this movie more like the theatrical version. Go into the pro settings and change the "gamma adjustment" to the highest setting to increase the brightness to a normal level and change the "W/B Low B" to around -25, which will remove the blue tint. The color still looks slightly off, but changing these settings was a big improvement. This is on the ST50 model.
