I opted for registered mail as I ordered five different TT titles. It shipped on the 1st and it's current CP status is "International item has left the origin country and is en route to Canada". So mine is not even in Canada yet, although it should be any day now. Shipping has been slow on both sides lately.

That's strange verbiage since how could the item leave the "origin country" and not be in Canada.

No doubt that the route is different this time around.

I've been getting my orders from SAE one week after the shipping notice like clockwork. I got the shipping notice last Thursday but I still haven't gotten the disc.

As previously noted, I see tracking that shows a side trip to Chicago and I've never seen that before. It's nobody's "fault". For whatever reason, the mail truck to Canada took a drive to Illinois first instead of heading across the border.

This is a HUGE disappointment in light of the long weekend. We now have a minimum of three days before we can hope for delivery.

So... there, I guess? If you want to say you think the Blu-ray LOOKS GREAT, go ahead. If you want to say "There's no Blue Push" and "The first 20 minutes were ALWAYS set at dusk"... there's just no helping you. I give up.
I can now understand why some viewers of the Blu are saying that there is no shot of the sun going down in that sequence, because the blue push in the revisioned version pretty much blues out the sun completely! Those pics are very telling.

I've been nailed like this a couple of times PAULO JC. In my experience, 3 TT Blu's (< $100) = a free pass from Canadian Customs, but 4 or more (> $125.00) = GST due. If they're charging you any duty above the 5% GST, use the toll-free number to dispute it. Under the N. A. Free Trade Act Customs can only collect GST on imported media.

BTW, this only happens to me with SAE orders. From Amazon, importCDs, and the rest, it's never been an issue.

For one thing the parts are rare not because they were made in low limited numbers like the bd's TT sell but because they were not saved over the years since people wanting the new car coming out the next year or every other year is a real reason why spending money on them is worth it.

Unlike what few reproduction 58 Plymouth parts out there they are limited only because the last surviving cars are few & far between but for these blu-rays there are way more then 3000 Christine fans who would pay $20 for a bd with tons of features but not $30 for nothing.

You're right about the $100=. In my case CD Universe was good to order (sometimes by low price on shipping) but always over $100 as you say I got nailed by COD.

Thanks for your information on the 5% GST, I had no idea about that ROclockCK!

Damn, I ordered 5 titles. I really hope I don't get hit now. Although during their Fright Night signed-copy giveaway I ordered 6 titles and didn't get hit.

I think they're just referring to the last checkpoint it passes within the US.

They offer 3 different choices for shipping to Canada. If you pay the extra for registered, it includes tracking.

But the tracking info does show it's trip through the U.S. which, in my case and the case of another poster (and probably others), includes an extra stop this time.

It usually shows Linden VA to Merrifield VA then it's not scanned again in the U.S..

This time, after "Depart USPS Sort Facility" in Merrifield, it showed up the next day as "Processed through USPS Sort Facility" In Chicago. So it's ended going through an additional stop.

That doesn't track it to Canada. But it does tell me that it's taking a longer route through the U.S..

If a filmmaker wants to do an alternate version of their film to satisfy their own creative urges, or just for some kind of closure on a difficult project, then I say "Go for it, knock yourself out." I might even want to see that effort if it provides some insight into your creative process or casts the subject in a different light (pun aware, sorry, but it fit).

However, to attempt to erase the original work...to pretend that it never happened...to bury the very thing that built up your dedicated fanbase over so many years...is a revisionist lie, and to me at least, just plain wrong. We saw this with Blade Runner. We saw it with The Exorcist. And the grandaddy of such screen revisionism remains the original Star Wars trilogy. Change your damn movie if you like, you own it as you continually feel compelled to remind us, but don't try to pretend the original never existed, or that those who have grown to treasure it in that form, are wrong to want its original incarnation treated with some basic historical respect.

What we know now is that in 2010 NOTLD 1990 was rescanned and remastered for a planned 20th Anniversary Edition, which Sony aborted for whatever business reasons made sense to them at the time. Had that project been completed and made it to market, would both versions of this film have been presented in some kind of deluxe double disc Blu-ray set? We'll never know for sure, but I suspect yes, just as was done for those aforementioned titles, except from the grandaddy of stubborn holdouts, Lucas. So what we're probably getting here is half of what that aborted NOTLD 2010 special edition would have been...just the 'new' look that the DP supervised and the director approves...without the legacy version to provide at least some historical context and counterpoint.

So sight unseen, regardless of the specific PQ and AQ merits of this transfer, my heart and mind are still inclined to align with those who feel that this experimental look for NOTLD 2010 should never have gone out solo as 'the only game in town' on Blu-ray, or at least not without a new commentary and/or filmmaker introduction, or a brief interview in the backround booklet addressing these sometimes dramatic creative changes. That's why you do Special Editions or Director's Cut Editions in the first place, and why it's always wise to make both versions available to let the audience ultimately choose which one they prefer.

As I've admitted, until this board, I wasn't familiar enough with NOTLD 1990 to really know or care either way. But my unfamiliarity with this title doesn't make it right in terms of film history to just replace a legacy fan favourite version as if the original never existed. In this awkward situation, I think TT has done the best they could via their refund offer, but ultimately, this really is about "Why these old movies matter to us." And "What responsibility does the studio and filmmaking team have when introducing changes that fundamentally alter their original work." Yeah, "Go ahead, give us your parallel universe take on it, but don't cavalierly flip a bird to the original...or the fans of it."

Both versions of a film can co-exist and in their own way be 'valid', but not when presented in a vacuum, without the other for creative counterpoint.

Nice Post.

You're welcome PAULO JC. BTW, since you're in Toronto, you're likely also paying provincial sales tax on your order. But still, if there's anything showing up on the Duty line, dispute it.

This post does hold merit.

The studio shells out the money to do the new transfer (bringing in the DP) but suddenly decides to shelve it.... why?

That really doesn't tell us anything.

Pretty much EVERYTHING coming from Twilight time is a "shelved" Blu-transfer that the studios planned on releasing before they got cold feet.

I give you the superlative Sony transfer of BYE BYE BIRDIE from Twilight Time. A near perfect transfer (that I watched tonight for about the fifth time since August). I remember reading about the restoration of this a couple of years ago and salivating over the prospect of a new a Blu-ray. It was mentioned in one of the Twilight Time threads (I don't know where, I lost track) that Sony had planned to release it but, as we know, Sony has given up on catalogue. So Twilight Time acquired this magnificent gem of a movie with an unimpeachable transfer.

There is no mystery to ponder or question to answer.

Sony can't be bothered with most catalogue releases. It obviously not a question of how they feel about the quality of the transfer. They've allowed TT to release a number of super transfers.

And I'll add that the same applies to Fox titles released by TT. THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES is a great transfer that was reported to go into wide retail distribution last year. Fox chickened out and Twilight Time acquired it.

There is simply no hidden meaning to be found in analyzing the nature of Sony's handling of their catalogue.

It was posted here earlier. We laughed, we cried, then the mods came and deleted it all. Not sure why. Maybe they don't want the place degrading into a meme warzone.
