OK thanks!

Anyway why do you think they just make a limited release? Cuz they know it wont sell much? And why wont they just release it on bigger outlets?

And why the price?! Should atleast have a DVD for it so I can give it away to a friend.

Actually, I wasn't assuming that at all... as someone else noted, lots of mom & pop stores carry unique local products that the big chains do not carry, especially if you live in a state that has small farms that sell their produce locally.

I don't mind paying a little more for it, because I like it and I can't buy it anywhere else.
That's good... and thanks for the example. We have some stores around here in NC that sell local produce as well, and that is always a nice thing to buy. Funny thing is, it actually doesn't cost that much more than the "chain" product because there is less overhead to get the fresh produce to a local market.

And this is the flip side...

As to the other posts in this thread regarding "Twilight Time is bringing movies that otherwise would not be available"... that's a strawman argument at best.

While Sony might not put out a movie, they license not just to Twilight Time... but also to Echo Bridge or Mill Creek or other companies that buy movie release rights.

I am sure that IF Twilight Time didn't exist, one of those places would have gotten the Sony movies that Twilight Time has picked up.

To make the argument, you are assuming that without Twilight Time then nobody would release them... and we know that isn't true because other companies license product.

Shout Factory is another... and I'll argue FAR better alternative to Twilight Time. They buy rights and they make slipcovers and lots of video/audio extras for their releases!

Now Shout and Sony is a different matter, that Cliff addressed in another thread when asked about it... but the point here is that Shout Factory buys from movie studios, sometimes tweaks the transfer they get to make it better, and adds tons of extras and they still sell for less than Twilight Time!

Twilight Time is trying to turn movies into collectibles... and in the long run, that is going to bite everyone in the butt... In 5 years, see what the discussion is with value of Twilight Time "sold out" releases...

Depends on what your looking for. Im not buying a Twilight Time release because I think im getting something special. Im buying it because I really like the movie and I don't want to have to do without it for another 3 year or more. I also don't want to pay insane scalper prices. I however do agree with you that Shout Factory does a much better job. I would love if Twilight Time added some extras. So in 5 years will my Fright Night be worth 200 dollars? Im sure it won't and it may even get reprinted after the 3 years are up, either here or somewhere abroad. However I won't care because I will have enjoyed my movie for 5 years which makes the cost seem fair to me.

I use an international debit card, and some stores just deduct right away on pre-orders, then when its released, they say they dont have the money, and the bank is holding it. Bank will say they have it. Such a hassle. So I plan to buy it when it is available.
Yes. Nothing has sold out, so far, before release date. All being available for several months after release. Not absolutely sure how fast the worse case, Fright Night, sold out but I think it was two months after release.

y'know, if this release would at least carry over the same features from the DVD, this would be a no-brainer for me (no zombie pun intended), but having to pay premium price AND keep the DVD ....

I'm still on the fence about this one. I'm already on the hook for Enemy Mine. It's just that 1) It's another $35 after Enemy Mine and 2) Zombies scare the living sh*t outta me. It's true. I'm a pu**y. The difference this time around is that this remake is actually a really bad ass movie. I was about 15 when this came out and comparing the remake to the original I honestly thought then (as I do now) that this remake is actually superior to the original. Savini and Romero were at the top of their game with this. And this movie sowed the seeds of my fear of zombies. I like the original but it doesn't scare me at all.
All that, and my boy Tony Todd is in this. The Candyman, Worfs brother, the crazy soldier in The Rock. Tony "Motherfreakin" Todd.

Dang. I'm still on the fence. Maybe I should get it. I don't know. Dang.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, so no opinions are wrong...

but let me say right here... *That* is 100% the absolute best attitude to have and the best reason to buy a movie.

Fright Night was the first movie I wanted from Twilight Time... but I couldn't say I wanted it for $30 + shipping... so I'm willing to wait, enjoy the DVD I have, and hope for a cheaper option in a couple of years (1 down, 2 to go).

Night of the Living Dead is tough... I really like that movie, but again I don't know about the price. I'm tempted but I do not have an unlimited budget... and that same $30 might buy me last year's Simpsons and South Park seasons on Blu-ray come Black Friday! And for as much as I love both "Nights of..." movies, I have to factor that in...

Enemy Mine is where things get really difficult. I never could find that on DVD except as one of those 2-packs that was bundled with Alien Nation... I guess the slogan here would be "IF you only buy one Twilight Time release this year, make it Enemy Mine"... The $30 price tag is tough to swallow, but I enjoy this movie... and if the transfer is good, I could justify the price for as much as I like this... I don't know if I can fit it in the budget, but I am at least considering it.

Well you see, that fits me to a 'T' DetroitSportsFan. Just about everything TT has released to date I do want, or am very curious about seeing after having been locked away in a studio vault for several decades, in many cases for most of the title's life. But I'm not p*ssed at all about the price because you know what, $30 bucks is pretty much what new movies cost when they street these days (at least up here north of the 49th parallel), and I'm not buying very much of that stuff...almost none of it lately. Just seems to be one half-arsed dumbed-down, cookie-cutter CGI wallow after another which I could barely stay awake for in the theatre...so why on earth would I want to own most of that stuff on Blu-ray?

My home video budget looks just fine these days...the best it's ever been, actually. Sure, I'm paying more than average for my Twilight Time titles (and Criterion, and KINO, and Eureka), but my collection isn't littered with all that junk blowing through the 'plexes, which I would likely never finish rewatching, much less want to watch again someday. Yeah, there might be fewer Blu-rays on my shelf, but they're all very high quality, and movies I'll gladly revisit again in years to come.

It's the old "Quality vs. Quantity" debate in a nutshell, and I think that cottage dairy farm analogy is a pretty good one. Unfortunately, a generation (or two, or three) of consumers have been trained to want more and more, instead of less but better.

Good news is you have plenty of time to buy them. Most titles take over a year to sell out.

I'll admit, I've participated in my share of speculation about which TT titles will sellout, and when, PuppetMasterBlu, but most of that has just been sporting wager...like handicapping the ponies. Truth is, I get my TT pre-orders in early each month because I just want to see this funky mix of stuff they've been rescuing from obscurity. Some months I have no idea what to expect.

Even a not so old or obscure cult title like NOTLD90 is appealing to me simply because I haven't seen the movie since its opening weekend, and that was just long enough ago (22 years) to make it seem fresh again. I mean, even when I look at the clips, very little of it is terribly familiar...I must have been smashed when I originally watched it (a reel possibility).

Basically they're take a cheap easy profit and refusing to risk ANYTHING at this point. and personally by viewing the chatter on a dozen or so forums it's really pissing off a good chunk of their catalog fanbase, and while in the short time I predict they'll get some quick cash, but in the long run I could easily see this hurting them worse than the stupid choices they've made the last 2 years or so.
When it comes to catalog, Sony continues to piss me off. The big one for me is Seinfeld. Why in the #$% isn't it on blu-ray yet? Friends finally got a release on blu-ray, yet Sony still has no plans for Seinfeld.

As far as this release, I'm gonna buy it from TT, but I'm definitely not happy about spending $35 with shipping on it. Too bad Shout Factory didn't get this one.
