The highest I normally see Criterions on Amazon are 26-27, A Twilight Time title costs 35 and there is never a sale. Im not exactly a Twilight Time hater but when people bring up shout factory and criterion i start to resent them just a little.

Yup you can never really lose on a Twilight Time title. You will regularly see used and brand new titles go for more on Ebay than what the thing is selling for over on Screen Archives.

Enemy mine looks fantastic!! I would buy from TT again!!!!

$50.00 viewed? What do you think it is worth sealed on the bay?

YEah, those who don't like it can resell it on Ebay for double or more what they paid.

Most titles are $30 + shipping. (shipping goes down per item if you ship multiple titles). This is a case where Amazon is not the place to buy. Go to Screen Archives site.

Yeah the blu does look good, im pleased with it, does not look as dark as the caps ive seen. But to be fair its considerably darker than what people who have watched the vhs and the dvd are used to. But that is only really noticeable for me in the beginning when they are reaching the house.

I think its fully understandable for people to be dissapointed. But the film does look good once it gets going.

Sad really. Someone enjoys the film and gets blasted for it. Many people have perceived it as dark and not blue on their television sets. Why don't you let someone enjoy their purchase?

There's certainly been no shortage of these showing up on eBay and the price is currently trending down. 5 copies sold yesterday on eBay, all listed as being new, ranging from $56.00 - $65.00. There's a used copy listed with 8 hours to go that's currently at $30.99.

For the most part I'm quite happy with it.

In theory, I was pretty indifferent to the altered look of the film. I mean, the caps are accurate in the sense that the film is cooler and darker than I remember it being.

In practice, I was surprised to discover that I like the dusky hues of the first half hour. As others have said, it definitely changes the mood. I think for the better. I particularly like the way it looks when Ben kills the zombie in the yard and curses at the sky, which has been cited as a particularly problematic moment. To me, it looks like the sun is setting behind the house -- totally appropriate. But yes, different.

Once the lights come on in the house, it's definitely still got that cooler feel. Light bulbs and flames aren't as warm as they might be. But again, I don't think it looks "bad" per se.

If I have a problem with the disc, it's the appearance of faces in close-ups. Has anyone else noticed a bit of smearing? It actually made me sit up and squint. I'm not used to seeing this kind of thing on a Sony transfer. Blotchy blobs of almost detail-free skin. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's noticeable and it's disappointing.

Other than that I'm good. In fact, the film itself was better than I remembered it.

I do wish they would have any kind of sale or coupon promotion now and then, at the very least for some of their slower selling titles. Even a free shipping promotion on SAE would be nice. After all, SAE probably pays a bit less than $30 to TT for each one sold or there would obviously be no profit in it for SAE. I guess if the retailer is not offering promotions, they must be sure all will sell out, in time, at full MSRP, with no prodding.

He didn't say that.
You're right, the original words were "i don't if any of the screens have been edited or not" [sic].

Not that those words were meant any particular way, but, statements like that are sometimes made rhetorically to cast doubt into people's minds. Whether it was meant to do so or not, it can have that effect on people, and revisiting the facts after such a statement can be beneficial. It's not entirely dissimilar from walking around town after a man was proven innocent and acquitted for a crime, and saying to others, "now, I don't know if this guy was guilty or not..."

By that logic, they are also used to at least half the resolution.

As someone else said, this is incorrect. Criterion MSRP is typically 39.99. TT MSRP is typically 29.99 (or sometimes 34.99). Just because some stores run Criterions on sale doesn't mean TT charges more.

not really! regardless of how anyone drones on about this blu, it is darker. nothing to do with resolution. the film is tinted thats a fact. most people on this forum are not happy with the darkness of the picture...or have you not looked!

Well it does because Twilight Time won't allow any other stores to carry it or lower the price therefore they end up charging more. Look argue it anyway you want but at the end of the day I can, at some point, pick a Critersion blu-ray up anywhere between 26-27 and sometimes as low as 20-22. And with those prices im assured a great transfer THAT THEY DO THEMSELVES and amazing special features. With Twilight Time im assured a good tansfer (maybe) lossless sound and if im really really lucky a commentary track. and all of that for 35 bucks. and if it's a popular title I can't even wait until I have the paycheck for it. No I have to get it possibly now within a week of it coming out for pre-order.

I don't hate Twilight Time. Im not even one of the people screaming "I will never purchase another title again". When they have a movie I like I fork over the 35 and the first day of pre-order. And I don't typically mind because at the end of the day this isn't going to get released anywhere else and most other blu-rays are cheap enough. However when I see Criterions transfers, their special features and what they charge......then I look over at Shout Factory and I see what they charge and I see their special features and the fact that they actually allowed to tweak the transfer, well I can't ignore that. I can't pretend that Twilight is amazing at what they do. At the end of the day Criterion are better priced and have more features and fans might actually get buy them without paying 70-100 dollars on Ebay.

Now if Twilight Time just stuck to releasing older films that literally no one else would ever want to release then I think these complaints wouldn't be a thing. The problem is they are releasing movies that have...ya know fans. Many fans. Lets put it this way, I don't hear anyone complaining about the lack of features with Rapture. Problem is they need these newer releases to keep the lights on.

Getting really annoyed (and worried now), as mine still hasn't arrived in the UK, along with Enemy Mine, more than a week after a lot of people have received theirs. Anyone in the UK still not got theirs yet?

I hope it arrives. You know they have that thing where if you don't pay insane shipping then they aren't responsible for you crap going missing.
Did you pay with Paypal? At least that way you will get your money back.
