I'm considering checking it out, but I haven't had the time to look into whether you're paying for a one-time streaming rental (and it's like $11), or if you get to download and own it. But it's HD with apparently the older color timing, so I'm interested in checking it out. Better than picking up the DVD for comparison at any rate.
It's only available for purchase, no rental, on Vudu so you own the stream and can watch it as often as you like.

Vudu does have a download capabililty but you have to have a piece of equipment which supports this feature.

http://www.vudu.com/docs/Download-an...re-2010210.pdf

I believe the PS3 is capable of that but I could be wrong.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention that you can download to a computer but Vudu only supports SD content on a computer.

...and here is an article which talks about Vudu-to-Go:

Blame? There are numerous interviews where Savini laments it wasn't a darker day when they shot. So...20 years later it got fixed by his DP who shared his goals and disappointment with the final product. As someone who's produced lo budget films I say GOOD FOR THEM.

Maybe people should blame themselves for their own disappointment for not enjoying now what the filmmakers did to fix something in the past. You got used to seeing the opening during a clear sunny day, something which they never liked. They fixed it to their original vision.

The irony here is of course the unstated hypocrisy regarding Savini's comments: he's wrong, stoned, stupid, a shill etc but if he supported the detractor's = view then he'd no doubt be put on a pedestal as justification for their faux outrage.

I really dig the changes. I felt scared for the first time watching this as a result of the darkened image. And I agree that they probably would have done something like this back in 1990 if they had the time and money to do it. I'm sure back then this kind of reworking would have been more time consuming and expensive. Now anyone can do it with a laptop and some software. Then, I'm sure not so much.

There are conflicting reports, it is also said that Savini liked how it turned out because the bright sunny day went against the grain of what you'd typically expect in a horror movie.

Patricia Tallman on the DVD release featurette:

"When we started filming, we started with the beginning of the script which was the graveyard scene. This was spring time in Pittsburgh. We wanted to have the gloomy, rainy, kind of thing going on which I believe is the way it is in the original. Instead we had these glorious sunshiney blue days with birds chirping in the background. Its not scary at all. But in the end, Tom *Savini* LOVED it. Because it was the Opposite. It was the opposite of what you expected...and thats what he kept doing in that scene."

Sorry, didn't want it to be too one sided. Because we totally know that nobody has yet made that argument
Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but I will say again :- unless your TV is, as a minimum requirement, set to a picture mode labelled Cinema, Movie, or THX AND your colour temperature is set to WARM then you are not seeing the picture anywhere near how it should be seen, and so you are not in a position to discuss the colour timing of a Blu-Ray disc.

Also, if you haven't set Brightness, Contrast and Sharpness, and set all Noise Reduction Settings to off then you are in no position to talk about black levels, shadow detail, edge enhancement and DNR.

Hmm, mine is set to Custom and is that Warm 1 or Warm 2. Guess I'm not in a position to discuss then. Don't be so ambiguous.

I wouldn't call the BD a POS myself, but I am interested to see the original color timing, and paying for a 1080p HD download (despite its low bitrate) is more interesting than a DVD.

Haven't been following this thread much so after some research I learned that I'll get a $5.99 credit for signing up for VUDU on my PS3, and if I bring my NOTLD BD into Walmart, it sounds like I can get the HDX download for a mere $2. :) Or for nothing assuming the credit will go toward the Disc-to-Digital program.

Point taken, but short of giving settings for every individual television these are the best starting point.
