Night of the Living Dead (1990) - Out of Print

So my copy finally arrived on Tues haven't taken a look at it until now. I have to say yes there is a blue hue to it in alot of areas now but no where near as bad as people make it out to be. In fact the movie has never looked better this good.

For all the naysayers I say to you get your eyes checked as it may be your vision that isnt up to snuff

ok. so, you do admit to "a blue hue to it in alot of areas now," but people need to get their eyes checked?? that's like saying "i do admit i burnt dinner to a crisp, but you just don't have a sophisticated enough palate to enjoy it."

I stated the Blue Hue was there and I also stated its no where near as bad as people are making it out to be.

I didn't have a problem with the blue hue....hell it's my favorite thing about the Underworld series. But the beginning of the film was pretty dark.

It is darker but it adds to the feel of the terror and fright. There are far worse looking movies out there to complain about getting bad transfers and color changes for example check out the details on "Dog Soldiers" on blu that is a travesty.

Hardly, it was a low-budget film to begin with and the company who made the Blu-ray was new at the time.

When the vast majority of people claim to have calibrated sets the fact that they're home-calibrated is sort of implied. There are certain things you can't do without ISF-level expertise and certain specialized equipment for grayscale adjustment and the like, but a home calibration provides a vast improvement over out-of-the-box torch modes typical of most sets and gets extremely close to a truly accurate picture. Modern sets also often include very in-depth customization options compared to sets of the past so the results you can generate with nothing more than a home calibration disc (and the included color filters and stuff) are very impressive.

You can purchase your own meters etc and go down the DIY route as i have and the expertise is something you can learn over time. Using calibration discs for adjusting Brightness/Contrast is a good start but only the tip of the iceberg.

The zombies in older movie were slower because of the knowledge of the "Rigor Mortis" effects. But the Rigor Mortis symptoms stop after few hours. The zombies should be fast at the very beginning, slower for a few hours, and faster again until they all rot!

Honestly I don't see how it could be much worse. Just looking at the Blu ray it might not seem all that bad. However when you compare against the DVD it's night and day. You really need to do a comparison to get the full effect.

You might like the new look or not mind it but there's no denying it's been radically changed from how it was previously.

How about the fact that they're dead? Meaning that the communication between the brain and the body would be less than perfect, kind of like a stroke victim. So I never found it believable that a zombie could run like a track athlete.

What makes me scratch my head is selective outrage. I have mentioned this in reviews and a forum or two without much reaction. SEVEN looks quite different from its Criterion LD (which touted some super-duper "silver nitrate" process something or other) to the subsequent New Line Platinum DVD and blu-ray out now. Sure, Fincher approved of the changes, but considering the supposed purists around here (many of whom I suspect might not mind how OAR is violated with every 1.78 catalog release), I don't quite get the inconsistent uproar (here I assume there is some overlap among the DEAD and SEVEN fans). In any case, I don't think anything related to home video is worth fire and pitchforks (except maybe getting Han to REALLY shoot first).

Probably because hardly anyone even saw the laserdisc. I don't even know any rich people that owned them.

And the different color timing for Seven is probably a lot less extreme than the NOTLD 1990 changes. I think Seven looks fine on DVD and blu-ray, but I never saw it at the theater.
