I couldn't disagree more.

FRIGHT NIGHT has been hugely popular in horror fandom for as long as I can remember (and I'm in my 50's). It was long requested on Blu-ray well before a remake was even hinted at. And most of those longtime fans have no interest in the remake...it hardly "bolstered" the original.

And most of those longtime fans have also never heard of Twilight Time so I doubt that it's quick sell out had anything to do with it.

FRIGHT NIGHT is, and always has been, a huge fan favorite. A bad remake and limited BD release by an unknown company are completely irrelevant to that fact.

Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm street are pretty much mainstream. They are beloved in horror circles for sure but there's also a large "public" awareness of them, it's not the same at all. I wouldn't even consider those "Cult" classics, very few people (including everyone outside of the horror scene) aren't aware of Freddy Krueger or Jason.

Fright Night, despite having virtually no public awareness has always had a large and enthusiastic cult following - the love for the film has always been underground and very esoteric. The "BD buying demographic" has nothing to do with it whatsoever, if anything the crossover between hardcore horror fans and videophiles is miniscule.... it's just that this movie retains a large following. The remake likewise has nothing to do with it, if anything the reaction among the fans of the original was mostly negative.

I agree that the original has always seemed to have a cult following.

But am I the only one that liked the remake in its own way? Not nearly as good but it was also completely different. I enjoyed it anyway... :shrugs:

A lot of people liked it, I think it was actually pretty well-received critically too.

It just wasn't very well received among the original's cult following. That always seems to happen though, any "modern" take can't possibly live up to a nostalgic memory of the original and it also threatens to bring "mainstream" followers into the original group.

I liked the remake. Actually, I liked it as much as the original.

The remake was alright. I managed to grab a used copy rather cheap and I don't regret it. The original was better, though, and I'm glad I ordered a copy when I did, before they sold out and everybody started asking for $100+ on eBay for it.

I could see the NotLD remake selling out, just because it is a cult horror film, even if you have a subset of people that view the remake as "sacrilege".

It's not even that beloved of a movie in horror circles except to a small generation that grew up with it on cable.
It's always been a cult classic. You have a misconception about what a cult following is.

Now Im having 50/50 doubts on getting this movie. I REALLY LOVE this movie, but the price just doesnt justify it even if its a limited release. Esp with no new features. Lots of Blu-ray coming. Sigh.

I am for sure getting this. To me it is one of the few remakes that can stand with the original. I also enjoyed the Fright Night remake but not as much as the original but it too can stand alongside the original as a good movie in it's own right.

I told myself I wouldn't get this, but I think I may regret it when it sells out.

you're implying that "Fright Night" merely seems more popular because it sold out so quickly? isn't that logic a bit backwards?

stands to reason that "Fright Night" sold out so quickly because it is a popular movie...

after thinking about this for a while ive decided not to get it. i like this movie but i just cant justify spending 35 dollars for this. this movie is really wo0rth about 10 bucks max. add that to the mixed things i hear about TTs transfers and the lack of extras makes this a no brainer. i could understand if this was a classic movie that i just couldnt live without but the price is too high.
