I wasn't rich and owned 400+ laserdiscs, including Criterion's Se7en. They were big for film collectors/enthusiasts/videophiles.
With panned & scanned, lower rez VHS as the only commercial alternative during the late 80s/early 90s, LDs were basically the 'only game in town' for the more passionate movie fan...especially for widescreen titles. At the peak of my own LD collection, I had close to 250 discs, which seems like a lot of dough invested, but much less when you consider all the VHS I wasn't buying or renting during that same period.

I still have the player and a box of them - Tim Burton's Family Dog TV show, some Criterions, the original cuts of Star Wars... Laserdisc was a great thing with the only other option being VHS!

I had around 650 but to be honest, I didn't pay very much for them or got them free, my wife was a buyer for a distributor so we got lots of promo's.

Thanks for bringing back the memory of the show Family Dog.

Yes Tim Burton was with the show Family Dog for 1 episode as a producer and I believe he was also a design consultant but it wasn't his show.

For all who missed out now is your chance:

Posted on Screen Archives website

October 26 - We are receiving a number of inquiries from fans who missed out on NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990) Blu-ray initially, and would now like to obtain a copy. A very limited amount of copies will be available again on October 26th, 4pm EST (TODAY!). These will be limited to 1 per customer, and to those who had not previously ordered a copy from us.

Anyone doing a countdown for this? lol

Not all that will be available are returned copies, and all being sold are 100% brand new and factory sealed.

Thats cool...I have one already. If its sold out how are you able to offer more than returned copies? Are these reserve for defect returns? so, more than 3,000 are made??

Perhaps some are orders people canceled after the "blue" scandal hit? So they're not technically "returned" ones?

Where did they come from if they weren't returned copies? I thought you sold through the 3,000? I understand that more copies are printed for replacement copies, and perhaps review copies, are these coming from that?

Remember that these limited editions are not claimed to be limited to 3,000 MADE. People on forums might post it but that's not what it says on the SAE website.

These are simply "Limited Edition of 3,000 Units" on the website.

Any company that sells limited editions has a contingency to account for damage, defects, lost products and returns.

The likelihood is that this is limited to 3,000 units owned by consumers. In all probability more are pressed during manufacture with the excess held back to account for the aforementioned contingencies. I would assume that if 100 copies are returned, they would be destroyed and 100 new copies would be released from contingency stock.

So there are still only 3,000 units owned by the public.

What is Arrow going to do, but use the transfer they are given? They will get the same tinkered edition (dark & blue one) .

They're releasing this stock only to new addresses so if you already ordered you're out of luck... (and its only 1 per order today as well).

As it should be. Anyways, these are selling for around $50 @ ebay...not much of an incentive for scalpers.

They could request a copy of the transfer that's been used for VUDU streaming and HDTV broadcast.

Whether Sony would comply with such a request or whether such a transfer would be suitable for Blu-Ray, is another question altogether.

If these come out with the right color scheme I will seriously flip out and lead the charge towards putting TT out of biz. If not, good news for those who missed out, even though ebay isn't much more than ordering from them last I looked.

It's entirely possible that Sony gives TT worldwide exclusivity for these titles.

That does bring up another question. Does Sony have the rights to this movie overseas as well? At amazon UK, the DVD version says that "UCA" has the rights. Not sure if that's Universal, or what.
