From what I've read, that's the deal they have with the studios from whom they license films. They give them an upfront license fee that covers for a fixed 3000 units pressing, so the studio does not have to bother about keeping track of SKU's and collecting royalties. In return, the studio gives them a 3 year (or 5 year?) window of exclusivity for the title.

Here are three screencaps of the Sony Movie Channel On Demand version to coincide with the first three screencaps of the blu-ray on this site's review.

It is pretty funny, though, that the supposed "definitive new anniversary transfer" wouldn't be the one they use for TV airings too. Glad to hear that it isn't, though. |

Those TV shots look like upscaled rather than proper HD to me. That said, I was disappointed by the changed color timing on the BD too.

I have to concur with VidJunkie. The Vudu HD file is true HD quality and looks much better than those screen caps above (but with the same color timing).

It seems that there are people unaware of the DP's comments in regards to the NOTLD 1990 transfer. I've had a discussion with someone in another thread, but this is the better place.
Frank Prinzi is the DP. He has a Facebook page. He has replied to a few different inquiries in regards to the new color grading. Someone has sent him the link to the screen captures on https://www.blu-ray.com's review. The other reply is in regards to a YouTube comparison that someone has made. Here are a couple of his responses. I will replace the names of the people asking questions with John Doe: Frank Prinzi ASC "John Doe" just saw the link and think it looked "terrible". It might have been smart for the people who did the transfer to send me a "first draft "dvd for my comments but I guess it wasn't in their perceived interests to do so. This often happens in the business and that is a real shame. FP Frank Prinzi ASC "John Doe", Thanks for your feedback on the show. I just saw a quick side by side comparison that "John Doe" sent ( I have not seen the new transfer yet). What I saw looked terrible. I hope the DVD doesn't really look like that. A couple of years ago I gave notes to Sony but never got a "first draft " copy to review. The interpretation from my words to a colorists mind has infinite possibilities. I hope it isn't as bad as it appears. Thanks FP |

Laughable to say the least. The screen captures are 100% dead on. Well, because they came from the movie! If it looks different on your TV, it's because your TV is not calibrated.
