It doesn't seem Mill Creek is particularly active with the Sony titles they have access to. I don't think that deal worked out the way alot of poeple hoped (just a bunch of ill conceived double features that never made much sense). Maybe they will slap this in a double feature with some other random horror film, but I wouldn't even count on that. |

Finally sat down to watch my DVD copy of this last night. Since I love the original, I wanted to like this I really did...but I thought this was for the most part...shit.
The original version of this film from 1968 totally owns this remake. Really some of the zombie makeup effects were the only neat thing about this film, not that it needed to be remade anyways. Plus since this was directed by Tom Savini, I figured there'd be a lot more gore. Plus the character of Barbara was ruined in this remake IMO. Her original character portrayal as being rendered almost catatonic from fear for 80% of the film worked a lot better than her being this Rambo-esque zombie slayer in the remake. |

I can't help but have mixed feelings for the remake. On one hand, as you say, it absolutely pales in comparison to the original. But most of the performances are decent, and the changes made to the characters and the story are significant enough to carve out a place for the remake on its own terms. Sorta.
In fact, I don't mind the strength of Barbara's character in this. Tallman carries it off nicely, and I don't think she's particularly Rambo-esque. She doesn't even have a catchphrase. ![]() But damn, that girl who played Poppy on Frasier does some of the shrillest, most annoying screaming in film history in this movie. Ultimately, everything is relative in zombie cinema; in the years since, we've had plenty of trash that makes NOTLD 90 look like a slam-dunk masterpiece. |

And I know Barbara doesn't have a catchphrase. When I described her character in the '90 remake as being Rambo-esque I just meant she seems to have a mentality of wanting to take on the hordes zombies by herself, plus she was very trigger happy with a pretty deadly shot. Was one of the zombies that she shot while outside at night supposed to be Johnny though?? I could have sworn I saw her take out a zombified version of him with the messed up glasses and all. |

I believe you're right -- as I recall Johnny does show up again.

Damn straight. The Predator blu-ray still looks like DNRd wax-faced crap, and the Night of the Living Dead 1990 blu-ray still has a revisionist color timing that makes it look like Smurf-faced crap. I'm not getting over it until we have blu-ray releases that are true to the theatrical releases. Thank you for the opportunity to remind everyone.

The answer is buried within this thread, but if I remember correctly from when all this was originally going down, the Vudu version has the original coloring. Maybe someone who owns that version will stop by and confirm for you.

Arrow have said that Sony won't sublicence to the or any UK labels so that rules out Arrow or SS. For another US release we're playing the waiting game for TT's rights to expire so another label to pick it up, unless TT do a special edition re-release a la Fright Night style.

I would say that is a certainty. If it includes the 1968 version, they had better ensure SAE bump it up to 5000 copies with limits.

I think TT has ruled out releasing this one again, because it was such a headache the first time around. Probably will end up with Mill Creek when TT's license expires.
