EXCELLENT news! After what happened with Vampires I had a feeling something like this would happen, can't wait for this now!

And to the above poster, I watched both the original and the Savini remake again not too long ago and I greatly preferred the remake. Yeah, the original is a classic for what it did for the genre and what it spawned but it's really starting to creak, not so much with the look or the effects but the performances, it's downright amateurish at times.

What was the problem with "Vampires"?

I rewatched the two movies not too long ago and, though I did find the original to be the superior version, I found it a bit closer to call than I thought. The biggest improvement over the original that I can point to is how proactive Barbara is in the remake. In the original Barbara's only real purpose is to bring the story to the farm house. After she's done that the movie's focus shifts to Ben and she literally sits on a couch for the rest of the movie. In the remake she's a lot more aware and MUCH more badass.
[Show spoiler]Something that I'm a bit more conflicted on is the ending. The remake has a bit more of a Hollywood ending, and that does remove the bold gut punch of the original, but I will admit seeing Barbra shoot Cooper in the face is a pretty damn satisfying conclusion.

Patti Tallman FTW, she's awesome in the remake which is basically why I like it so much more.

Duane Jones performance was good but Tony Todd for me was brilliant in the remake.

Him and Patti both. It'd be great if we could get an unrated version one of these days, but I don't think there's enough impetus to make it happen.

Hopefully the missing sound effects from the ending credits on the TT bd will also be fixed in this new version. Can't wait to get this!

You must be one of those people who universally condemn all remakes regardless of quality. I despise most remakes myself but acknowledge there are some that are quite good. NOTLD '90 is at least a competently-made film that happens to be a lot of fun in many ways. I don't think anyone has ever claimed it's better than the original (I'm a fan of the remake over the original, BTW) but it does seem to have quite a few fans. Twilight Time did sell out of all 3000 copies

Yes, it will be. I bloody hate how much real estate they take up on the covers, so whenever we do a flip one, I take it off.

Though now everyone has to decide if we want to sell off the TT release or keep it since it'll be the only release with that blue transfer?

Umbrella are coming up with some good stuff, there's also Drunken Master on the way too (another alternative to the upcoming TT version).

Compared to Romero's trilogy it's definitely run of the mill, but on its own, it works as a decent zombie movie. Following the success of Dawn of the Dead, the zombie genre got saturated throughout the 80s with a wave of zombie movies in the US and in Europe. I regard NOTLD 90 as a swansong to that period and also a sort of a (failed) comeback attempt by the people who were responsible for it -Romero, Savini- and who were trying to still make some cash given they lost the rights to the original NOTLD. I think the remake stands ok on its own, I like Barbara 2.0 and Tony Todd is excellent as always.

It'd be cool if they had both transfers included, but I'd rather the unmolested one, even though it likely won't be as detailed as the TT one.

I would've liked the original art on the reverse, but if I'm reading it correctly, both sides are new art? I would've liked their Night Of Creeps release to have the original art on the reverse without the rating, but looks like that's being used on the front, with the new art on the reverse.

Yeah it is interesting in that it was one of the few Zombie films of the 1990's.

Then the Sony version who who approved it and how (eyes on vs over the phone notes) started changing.
Sony said that the new master was made "in consultation with the DP" even though the DP never saw anything until someone on facebook sent him screenshots of the TT blu-ray. The DP did not approve of what he saw. The only consulting the DP ever actually did was with some Sony person over the phone, and they asked questions about his notes that he took years ago. Savini watched the blu-ray and said he approved of the new look, leaving some to question if he's going blind in his old age.

He seems to be the current day embodiment of William Shatner SNL Trek Convention skit. "You're going to pay me to show up and do what? Yeah sure, not a problem, but make sure the security team has their weapons ready. These folks are crazier and more dangerous than any Zombies I ever filmed"
Tom Savini has always been rough around the edges. He was brutal on the set of Day of the Dead. As far as horror conventions go, the fans are always extremely respectful, knowledge and friendly to the guests and each other. Tom hasn't done anything in ages. I'm sure getting paid to answer the same questions over and over again for decades and sign your name for people that admire you is frustrating, but it beats say loading/unloading a UPS trailer in 90 degree heat.
