I don't own this film at all, even though I really love it. I've been waiting on an opportunity to finally get it on Blu-ray (Thanks Twilight Time! Not!). I've never imported a Blu-ray before (I own a few UK and Canadian discs, but bought through US sellers), but I may consider doing that with this if it's region-free, and there's still no sign of a reissue from Sony.

If this isn't region-free, I may consider taking you up on that offer. :P

Not me, personally. The feckless, screaming and then catatonic charicature of a woman as opposed to Patricia Tallman kicking butt? Romero was involved in the remake too. It wasn't like some studio shenanigans.

They've screwed that up though.

Apparently an older master has been used, not the newer one from the JP BD, which if it looks fine I could probably live with -- but -- the Cantonese mono track is incomplete and reverts to the English dub in places (the French DVD has the complete track) and the subs are, in fact, DUBtitles. A real missed opportunity. Fixes could be applied, but I can't see Umbrella doing a recall/reissue.

Agreed. Also it's good that they're going with the original 2.0 audio rather than a 5.1 remix.

As for an unrated version... I like the fact that the gore is restrained and the film relies more on suspense than splatter like the original did. That said, an option to see Savini's uncut edit wouldn't be unwelcome.

Not as good as the original, but damn good in it's own right. I'd actually put it up there as one of the best Horror remakes of all time. Todd, Tallman AND Towles are ****ing awesome, and there's a great sense of dread and end of the world atmosphere throughout. The Zombies look great, too. They really look like dead people this time around.

It's just too bad that the MPAA tore this one up.

Hopefully they include "The Dead Walk" featurette that was on the old DVD, it shows all the gore scenes that were cut. It's in extremely rough VHS quality, so i don't see it being added back into the film.

The Savini commentary was great as well. PLEASE include that!

See that's what I was wondering. If they are simply using the old transfer that has been streaming or if they have taken the filter off the new one.

I think not responding to the question of weather or not this will be region locked is a good sign. If they confirmed it to be region free they could probably get in trouble.

I really hope not. The TT transfer is a bad mistake. Nothing more. We don't want it hanging around.. we certainly don't want it being given any sense of validity.

I have Umbrella's Romero trilogy on blu-ray. They are all region free, so there is a possibility.

I honestly don't care which transfer is used. I just want to own this movie. It was actually my introduction to zombie movies thanks to TNT's Monstervision. I'll definitely be getting this.

I know the movie has cuts to the gore, having seen those scenes on my old DVD, they are not essential, and just a bit gratuitous. That said...I really would have liked to see the version Savini WANTED to make. His accounts of the producers not letting him expound, and try things, while staying true to the essence of the original, are legendary. They made him make a almost cookie cutter remake. He has said he lost interest while making this film, because of that.

I recently DVR'ed this off Starz/Encore, and it was the TT transfer. I didn't think it would bother me, but it did. It's soooo blue now. I kept waiting for a Terminator or Alien to appear, from their respective movies...I shut it off about half an hour in

Yup, the original Barbara's such a wet blanket you could throw her on a fire and she'd put it out. Even though we've had a good year for female heroines kicking arse on da big screen, Barbara 2.0 is still right up there with Ripley et al some 26 years later.

This movie is on Sony's 4K transfer list for a 2K finish (which AFAIK was what the TT was derived from), so personally I think there's a good chance we'll get that newer transfer only without the blue timing. I would take the movie in its blue state anyway, as sacrilicious as that sounds (edit: I did the same with Vampires when I bought the French BD), but getting the newer transfer with more faithful timing (as what happened on Vampires) would be even betterer.

Then again, given what mark said about the Umbrella version of Drunken Master using old video and audio assets from Sony (thanks BTW), we may get saddled with the transfer used for the original NOTLD '90 DVD, which dates back to 2000 at least. Eh, I'm still buying it.

I'm totally in on this release, as soon as it's confirmed that it's region-free and doesn't have the blue tint. Otherwise, my DVD still works just fine.

The original Barbara may not be EMPOWERING, but so what? Is it sexist? Some people seem to not notice that there are three adult females in NOTLD, and only one loses her shit. The other two keep it together better than Harry Cooper.
