It is a strange choice. Hopefully the rep from Umbrella can clarify this further.

I would imagine it's because the interview shorts were in production at the same time the disc was being worked on, so the featurette editor(s) would've been using whatever HD source they had available -- i.e., the Twilight Time disc.

I've put together featurettes before using clips from VHS tapes, because that's all that was available when producing the extras.

Anyway, hats off to Umbrella for getting this version out! Worth the price, and the new extras are nice too.

Well that would make sense except the HD Master Umbrella used is an older master that's been widely available on Vudu, Amazon, iTunes and so on. Heck using the DVD footage would've made more sense.

I'm curious if that "blue" tint is just a filter that can be removed and if so, why Umbrella didn't explore that option. The 4K scan is infinitely better when it comes to detail, it's really all about the shit color timing and tinkering that would've been done in post during the mastering. So if a raw 4K scan exists, which it should given I can't imagine a multi million dollar studio tinkering with the scan and having that be their only master.

Evidently it is the only master they're willing to give out or the old one, otherwise I'd imagine Umbrella would've requested the 4K scan.

Not really -- just because the label is delivered a master from the licensor doesn't mean they'll necessarily have it readily available before the extras producer finishes their work. There's also the hassle of making clones, shipping from different countries / continents, etc. The interviews were shot and presumably edited in the States, not Australia -- and if I was cutting a featurette, I would be much more inclined to grab a Blu off my shelf to use for clips rather than to capture a weak download.

It would be better if they went with the DVD to be honest. Anyone watching the interviews who isn't aware of the TT Blue-ray incident would be thoroughly confused by the whacked clips

If my order turns out to be "lost" (that is, knicked by postal workers somewhere along the line) I guess I'll just order both Umbrella releases of NOTLD '68 and '90 separately. Having them together in the same case would've been nice but I guess I'll have no choice now since the LE is sold out. :|

Ordered one from Amazon. It was $23 and change with free 2 day shipping. I figured that's pretty close to what I would pay elsewhere with shipping.

Are the special features region free? I know the movie itself is.

I can't confirm first hand yet (you can thank Deep Discount for that ), but members have posted specs and such and they list all the extras as 480i-1080i/60 so it should all work in a US player.

Special features:

Audio commentary with director Tom Savini - Dolby Digital 2.0
The Dead Walk featurette - 480i, 24:54
Interview with director Tom Savini - 1080p, 28:07
Interview with special effects team John Vulich & Everett Burrell - 1080p, 21:03
Interview with actress Patricia Tallman - 1080p, 16:31
Behind the scenes featurette - 480i, 8:15
Trailer - 1080i/60, 1:06

I briefly checked out the main feature earlier. There was quite a bit of specs of dirt and damage in the small section I watched. On the other hand, the bitrate was quite high, it was fluctuating between 30 and 40 Mbps.
