sorry, I REALLY doubt that. going along with TT's estimations I'm guessing no more than 10% MAYBE 15%

went ahead & pulled the trigger, bought 1 copy for myself. however, i plan to keep it sealed until i actually want to watch it. i've only watched my DVD copy a few times, once not more than a few months ago (before this release was announced). i'm very curious to see what's going to happen w/ some of these releases once the 3-year exclusivity is done...

I've been posting about it on Facebook so as many of my friends could know about it as possible. I wish I'd gotten Fright Night and can't afford to spend $120 bucks to a scalper. Wouldn't want anyone to feel the same way bout NOTLD.

My guess is someone else licenses the more popular ones that have proven to sell, if the studio is still willing to license the films out. Fright Night and Night Of The Living Dead are two very strong candidates to get a Blu-ray release from somebody, once their three-year window is over. I really don't expect to see changes in how the major studios deal with their catalog properties on Blu-ray, the executives still see a streaming and download future for the bulk of their catalogs.

Sony has actually done this before, they released several movies on their own as BDs before licensing them out to distributors like Image for a second edition.

No way is 50% sold to scalpers. I don't even think its as high as 20%. If you just watch the trends it wasn't until just recently when the numbers started to jump down in sizable quantities.

I really doubt the number is that high. Not everyone who is buying is buying extra to make a profit. Really the only reason why we hear about it so much on this site is because people have been here following this release since its announcement.

I suspect the vast majority of the final 500 copies will mainly go to speculators, as they start smelling a profit with the guaranteed sellout from Twilight Time. Everyone can see what happened to Fright Night's value on the used market and there are still thousands of fans whom don't know yet this is being released on Blu-ray.

Prices on the secondary market should still increase more slowly than Fright Night's prices have gone, that sellout caught everyone by surprise and there were fewer speculators in on it hoping to make a buck.

however that might be hard. TT said that the last 500 are limited to one per household to limit that particular strategy

I find solace in that there's pretty much no chance of twilight time holding onto the rights. No way will they pay Sony to liscense the titles to NOT release them. Plus this should help Sony see that they can make more money with another wider release

I don't think it will ever see Fright Night prices due to this increase. Plus Vampires are more popular than zombies to the average Twihard

yeah, most likely not, that was a complete shocker to everyone. $150 + prices will probably never happen except for 1 or 2 sales but $60-$90 should be pretty easy to hit

If they had not intrest in releasing these flims (Fright Night, NOTLD) on their own from the start, I dont think they will have any interest in releasing it themselves once the 3 years is up.

They had to know that Fright Night and NOTLD had a big cult following and they still decided not to release them. Why would it be any different now? plus, they'll have lost 3000 sales before even releasing it. I just dont see it.

i agree w/ that & actually can't blame the studios given consumers' apparent preference for convenience over quality.

Sony will take the offer from whichever distributor is willing to ante up the most money for a new license, after the current contract ends. I don't think the retail environment is going to change enough in two years, that would make Sony change its mind on releasing a movie themselves like Fright Night.

I never said anything about a wider release. Twilight Time was on to something with their limited edition model, they simply set the bar too low for some of their releases. These horror titles licensed from Sony could have easily supported 5000 units over three years. It would probably behoove the next distributor to also keep their release a limited quantity of units.

and doubling, perhaps tripling what you payed for it is nothing to laugh at.

i think its atleast certain to go for $60 on the secondary market.... $90 being quite possible as well
