Oh sure but it would take the vicious sting out of it.

Choking down that $30 price point is no doubt a hard pill to swallow, but I personally think the limited edition model is the worst thing about Twilight Time. The lack of special features doesn't bother me at all, but I realize that's a big blow for many.

Hey, the high price point does sting a bit, but I would rather pay it so I can own the film. With the sudios licensing out films like this, it's pretty clear they had no plans to release them any time soon. Ill take the film, price tag and all.

I agree, but the price did come down, not to long ago, Sony releases where $34.95 + $5 shipping, now they are $29.99 + $5 shipping like the fox titles.

So license it out to a company like Image or Mill Creek. As long as the parent company supplies the transfer to be used there should be no quality concerns and the price would be much lower. Not to mention there wouldn't be these limited releases that have a potential to sell out before the release date even hits. Don't get me wrong I paid to have this in my collection but I would have been much happier paying $15 then $35.

True. The studios aren't that interested in catalogues. At least a few of the bigger hitters with the biggest pile of them... some of the others are spreading the love but let's be honest, aside from FN and NOTLD and a handful of others these are titles that probably wouldn't see a legit release if not for TT.

No, I don't think they're doing us a 'favor' but I'm pleased that they exist all the same. If anything I wish a handful of other peeps would work on a similar business model. If there were more of these companies around we could probably get a lot more of the lesser known films released...

That's assuming Image or Mill Creek wants a particular title. FN or NOLTD? Yeah probably.

Rapture? Swamp Water? Probably not.

What people need to remember, is Twilight Time isn't a large company. They have to pay for licensing and materials and distribution. Making limited quantities ensures that of a product doesnt sell, they dont take a huge financial hit for it. It is probably as simple as that, and/or using exclusivity and limited editions as a way to keep their warehouse from overflowing. It works.

And as far as letting other studios license these films instead... well, of Twilight Time got it, doesn't it stand to reason that other studios really weren't biting anyway?

And that's the key. TT's licensing deals have to say something like "we'll take the titles nobody else wants, but you're going to have to throw in some mainstream titles that will sell well and draw attention to our company".

Exactly. They need a handful of mainstream films if they expect to last long.

I do wonder how well that works. I mean I don't know if the hardcore horror fans who worship Fright Night and NOTLD are buying Swamp Water. Im not saying there isn't come cross over, im sure quite a bit on this forum but in general I don't know how many people are buying NOTLD and Rapture at the same time.

For fun I've been tracking their sales and there was definitely a spike of at least 10-25 for some of the lesser titles when NOTLD first came up for pre-order.

Image put out Sleepwalkers (from Sony) on BD, a film that is less popular than Fright Night, Night of the Living Dead '90, and the upcoming Christine. I somehow doubt Image got the chance to snag any of those latter films.

Exactly. Sure, there are some folks that will buy everything from TT, but obviously a lot more that only care about a few of their releases. Hence the reason that 3 (almost 4) titles have sold out, and many of the other titles languish in obscurity or indifference.

So, does it work? Well, it works for TT, because they know they're guaranteed a few sell outs. Does it work for horror fans though, who are paying a premium to keep TT in business?

TT has officially announced that less than 500 copies remain.

Yep, sure it's $30 now, and it'll be triple that (or more) in the near future. Look at where Fright Night is at -- this is selling even faster (maybe because more people are aware), which is good for TT...but bad for folks who may not know it's coming.
