LG only makes 55" OLED TVs in 1080p resolution. I'd say it's likely that store's 4K sign was a mistake although it may have been a 4K LCD/LED TV and although not easy to do they can also be damaged with burn in from static images.
A panel's depth is not a factor in susceptibility to image retention. The thinnest LCD TVs are the most resistant to image retention. OLED, like its close cousin, PDP, which is also a self emissive display technology becomes more stable with a proper break-in. The membership clubs and big box stores need to invest in a proper video distribution system and run high-quality content. It's that simple. I'd like to say more but I can't link to the content. -Robert |

You mentioned "proper break-in" Will you also be breaking in sets as you did the plasmas? What is you estimated time to break in an OLED? My Samsung you ran for 150 hours. OLED's about the same? |

So, last question: Is the new LG OLED 4K TV's that are coming out this year less likely to suffer image retention? And, will they support 3D? [Show spoiler] And before I forget, I hear some manufacturer unveiled an 8K TV at CES this year. So, how far behind 4K, is 8K? A year or two? |

All LG OLED displays support passive glasses 3-D. The advantage of the new LG 4K OLED models is that they offer full 1080P quality for each eye with passive glasses instead of 540P for each eye on the older 1080P models (Of course 2-D content is full 4K quality on a 4K display and 1080P on a 1080P display). The above are still image resolutions. So far all OLED and LCD flat panels on the market lose a little bit of resolution with motion.
Not everything that is shown at CES is released to the consumer market. 8K displays might not come out for several years, then again some company might release an 8K LCD display since it is a higher number then 4K, which is a selling advantage when the average consumer is in the retail store. 8K OLED displays might be several years away. The problem with releasing an 8K display now is that native 8K source material would need to be created, then on top of that a 8K optical disc format and streaming format would need to be created. There is no consumer native 2-D 8K source material or native 3-D 4K material for use with passive glasses. I am all for 8K displays only if the industry starts offering 8K programming to watch on optical discs, etc. Native 8K source material for the consumer might be at least 10 years away. Seeing LG's 65" and 77" 4K Ultra HD OLED with good content is a thrilling experience. We've demoed LG's 65EC9700 and 77EG9700 with reference quality BD titles, broadcast TV channels from our DIRECTV dealer package and Sony's 4K media server in our showroom and everyone is stunned seeing the extreme contrast ratio that delivers a far more dynamic image than ever seen before. -Robert |

The sound bar was the only difference that I could see but who knows what could be behind the panel. Yesterday, I stopped by a Best Buy and discovered a Sony rep was there. He was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with. About six-eight months ago at a different Best Buy, I stumbled upon an LG rep in the TV department. I was excited and wanted to talk with him about the 55" OLED that was on demo. It was a little discouraging. I actually knew more about the OLED's than he did. He did not even know how to go into the TV's menu. It must have been his first time out???? I hope your get together with LG will be a lot more informative than mine was with the LG rep. You have a great day and take care. m |
