I'd like a 65" G6 when the price drops $2-$3,000. Hopefully they will drop as consumers buy the cheaper models.

I hope when I buy my LG 65" G6 it's not nasty like the one in that video link. Oh my goodness all the dust and lint and stuff. They should clean that TV before showing it off.

Default The rumours of the OLED nit being too small are greatly exaggerated.

In fact, when you see the G6 with Dolby Vision content tone mapped to G6's contrast ratio range the highlights are very very bright and to my liking in a dark room they need to be toned down.

When you put specular highlights next to the 0 MLL that only OLED can do our eyes see the highlights are perceived to be much brighter than they would measure with a meter.

Seeing with your own eyes is the only way to judge these TVs.
What's the maximum brightness that other current/coming this year best monitors have? Isn't it around 1000 cd/m2? If you measured ~700 cd/m2 on the G6, that's only half an f/stop difference. (If you have a camera/lens with aperture depth of field preview, just switch the aperture a half stop with the depth of field preview to see the small difference.)

If you watch with lights on, OLED with a ceiling lamp with 2 light bulbs will look the same as watching one of the 1000ners in the room with three light bulbs on the ceiling lamp after a minute of adaptation. With lights off, you may not even know which is which unless viewed side by side.

Having a contrast ratio of 20 f/stops from specular highlights to shadow detail is a much more relevant parameter towards picture quality than half a f/stop "maximum brightness".

Yes, from what I'm told the brightest 2016 TV will have a peak luminance of 1000nits with a 18% window size.

Thanks for the easy to understand explanation of luminance and luminance range. LG's 2016 4K OLED TVs have a tonal range of 20 stops and the best 2016 LCD/LED are likely to reach 16 stops max.

Robert, has the E6 been delayed? You had mentioned before your received date for the E6 was 4/11, and your website still says the same. Has it been delayed a week?

Can you give a little more of a morsel on that “good news”?

No the E6 is on schedule to ship next week to us. So they will easily be shipping from us the week of 4/18 at the latest.

Glad to see the E6 available in 55" and 65" classes. The 55" is one to two weeks later than the 65".

Sorry no tips at this moment, check back.

Ok, my misunderstanding. I had thought you meant that you were going to start receiving the TVs the week of 4/18.

I thought I would try. I will be checking back later.

Thanks.

16 f/stops (65,000:1 contrast ratio) is with the backlight dimming up and down while the movie plays, no?

Static contrast ratios seem to hover to date ~10 f/stops (1000:1) for many IPS, and seen measured between ~ 11 f/stops (2000:1) to 12 f/stops (4000:1) for VAs (Best I've seen reported was 5000:1 (12.33 f/stops) for a VA Phillips computer monitor)

@Jim, thanks for asking and the nice reference of our VIP service. Yes we still offer our q/c, proper break-in and professional calibration for Day, Night and 3D in all HDMI inputs.

Robert HDTVTest is causing some masss hysteria on Twitter by claiming that G6 and E6 will NOT have the same picture quality and the C6 and B6 will be worse. Almost everyone has been saying that the E6 and G6 were the same minus 1 HDMI port and less powerful sound bar and 1 less remote. They are claiming different SOC's in all of the models. Can you please try and confirm with your sources at LG?

Thanks!

In Samsung’s experiments for evaluation of the number of local dimming zones and that relationship to picture quality, they’ve been using a simulated native contrast ratio (highest) of 4500:1.

I believe we'll see some 2016 FALD VA panel hitting between 15 - 16 stops.

More than just a rumor...

Quote:
Whilst every 2016 LG OLED television will carry the same core features (3840×2160 resolution, Ultra HD Premium certification, HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR support), a company executive said there’ll be subtle differences in picture quality between ranges due to different SoC (system on chip) used. According to him, the higher-end sets feature a slicker SoC necessitated by soundbar integration, so LG’s engineers figured they might as well make use of the extra capacity to improve video processing. From what we could gather, the key difference would be colour volume which takes into account luminance/ intensity (read: peak brightness) in addition to 2D chromaticities.

I was at Best Buy yesterday (Magnolia to be exact). I was told they are taking pre-orders for the 55" E6. They quoted me $4999.99. Was hoping it would be less than that.

Keep in mind the 65” E6 is $6999.99, so I think that price is fair.
