That's opposite of the trend, which is to make "centerpiece" televisions, as large as possible. Small televisions are a commodity market, which is not the favorite place for mass marketing.

No one will pay a proportional price for a small television - the price is stratospheric. It's going to be a long time.

Depending on the bedroom size some consumers are placing 55 inch and large flat panels in their bedroom now. I also would be interested in small size OLED screens at around 26 inches and larger. A kitchen OLED TV or a small office OLED TV at around 26 inches would be ideal. I can tell a big difference in picture quality on a 26 inch LCD when compared to a 50 inch plasma or OLED screen. OLED screens are already used on smartphones, hopefully in the future OLED screens 26 inches to 50 inches will be made. In addition, I would love to see a 100+ inch 4K OLED screen in the years to come.

Even with 2% bias lighting, that's not going to alter biological response (pupil dilation) by much.

More positive comments from Daredevil director LLoyd about OLED and its display capabilities and not being restricted to LCD limitations on grading content:

http://www.techradar.com/us/news/tel...mazing-1290695

EDIT:
Mark Henniger's report on the Apr 9 event in NY with LG, Netflix . Several Youtube videos included. Very informative. This one, mentioning HDR implies that the 65EG9600 is HDR, or at least LG's current version of HDR pending a standard being established, and that Daredevil is graded for HDR per the comments by LLoyd, the Director of Photography:

More about the 3rd quarter intro of the 55EG920 in Europe. More affordable, so premium pricing strategy may change going into the 3rd quarter. Smart move by LG, prior to Samsung and others entering the market with their OLEDs. I doubt the speculation that the 920 will have WEBOS 1.0, more likely it will be 2.0 since LG is providing a free update to 2014 models in July.

"Moving onto individual models, LG confirmed that all its new OLED televisions in 2015 will feature native 4K Ultra HD resolution. The 2014 55EC930V (which we praised highly in our review despite some issues) will carry over as the sole full HD 1080p set to serve as an affordable entry point into large-screen OLED technology. Interestingly, LG UK’s product manager of home entertainment Robert Taylor hinted that a 4K version may be launched at IFA later this year at a similar price. A 55-inch 4K OLED TV for £2,500? Just take our credit card already!"

This apparently was referring to the 4K 55EG920.

Is this really happening? Can anyone else confirm? I'd love to see 2.0 on my EC9300, but from what I've read, the 2014 models just don't have the processing power to handle it.

See post and link: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=320

It does say "most" of the features.

Glanced right over that post. Thanks for clarifying. My main gripe with 1.0 is the slow load times after first turning on the TV. Hopefully the 2.0 update will help a bit.

It is good to see that LG will reward early adopters with free updates when they can.It helps to build brand loyalty, which they will need when Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, et al get back into the OLED consumer market.

I think there is still some hope that a software update will be made available to, if not 2014 models, at least early 2015 models (LG 55&65EG9600 displays) to take advantage of HDR content. Since whatever HDR schemes are adopted as a standard by the UHD Alliance will most likely map to the display capability, it won't matter if the display is capable of peak luminance of 300+ or 800+ nits. The 0 black level attainable by the OLEDs implies that they all have a "high" dynamic range as LG has pointed out. See LG Newsroom link in this post (3 parts)

Well Vin, maybe you do, but it’s not like I have a monocular or binocular pupil diameter measurement device laying around to refute you and quantify mm. changes in pupil diameter vs. the effect on visual function working across mesopic…..

But, I can tell you, that with my eyes, shadow detail appears differently to me with even 2% ambient lighting as opposed to watching in a pitch black bat cave….something which is of significance when one is considering creative intent as to what a filmmaker desires consumers see or not see during a motion picture.

Well, now we're getting into the minutiae of how much dilation. Nonetheless, whatever 2% entails, the threshold of bright highlight tolerance is still low (flipside is less of a necessity for black levels and thus making OLED less attractive), and I find the director's intent argument to be overstated at times.

what is up with folks saying they can't watch UHD content on the Amazon app? I wonder if that's a WebOS 2.0 issue. The Amazon app on my UB9500 has all of their UHD content.

Netflix's Mirer Q&A at spring rollout:

"Q: What’s your opinion of 4K Ultra HD OLED coming into the home theater experience?

A: It’s the best experience you could imagine right now. There is no place that you can see this at the same fidelity. Movie theaters give you a different experience. It’s great in its own right, but in terms of consumers having access to the best fidelity experience – this is it."

I am getting fired up.

In six more day, my wife and I are heading to Las Vegas for a few day and while there, I will stop by Fry's to finally get to see LG's 65" and 77" OLED's that are on demo.

I have been waiting for over a year for this and it is finally near. I truly hope they are as fantastic as they have been portrayed in my own mind.

Did I miss the Value Electronics shootout? I can’t find the thread. Geez, I feel like one of those reporters running thru the field after Hillary Clinton. Where the heck is the shootout from Scarsdale.

If your talking about the 2015 ShootOut, it won't happen until, possibly, August.

That’s what I’m talking about. Yes, thanks, I’d thought I missed the event.

But "possibly"?
