No possibly. Hasn't happened. Robert thought it should be around the end of August.

When the time gets close, it will be posted a bunch of times. Especially on the OLED threads

Unless they've replaced those sets (or bothered having them engage the wear compensation algorithm with regularity since I last checked, and it could be too late for this measure to make any difference after at least 3-4 months of abuse), the IR/burn-in will be quite distracting.

I saw your post regarding the problems with the sets at Fry's. Disappointing but at least I get to see them finally

The UHD Alliance web site is now live: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=230

Wonder what happened to LG? Back in January they were listed as a member. Now they are not. I remember seeing something about them starting another alliance a few weeks ago. Perhaps they had issues with how HDR standard discussions were going.

"The Alliance was formed by global companies including DIRECTV, Dolby, LG Electronics Inc., Netflix, Panasonic Corporation, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Sharp Corporation, Sony Visual Product Inc., Technicolor, The Walt Disney Studios, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. Entertainment"

LG Display to Concentrate on UHD OLED Production…Production Adjustments on Large Panels

LG Display, currently going all out for TV market creation based on Organic Light Emitting
Diode(OLED) technology, made drastic adjustments for this year’s production plans.
This was because of the increase in the total stock due to sluggish sales of Full HD(FHD) OLED TV, and the low yield of the Ultra HD(UHD) OLED TV panel. It seems they have modified their production plans conservatively as even the factory operation stop incident, which occurred in the beginning of the year due to nitrogen gas leak, overlapped.
According to multiple industry officials on the 20th, LG Display has recently cut down productions for the OLED TV panel partially. (LGD had originally planned from last year to produce 742000 OLED TV panels this year, but this fell to 650000 and then to 500000 at the beginning of the year, which has recently fallen again to below 500000.)
Industry officials said, “The production goal for the OLED TV panel was originally set at over 700000, but was constantly cut down. Producing 500000 will be good enough defense for this year.”

There are two reasons why LG Display decided to make production adjustments. They are low market demand for the FHD OLED panel that had raised yields to a high level, and the increase in the charge of stock due to this. It has become especially hard for them to put up a differentiated value as they have lost in the price competition with the UHD LCD TV adopting the Quantum Dot(QD) film.
In the premium TV market, QD(Quantum Dot)TV and UHD OLED TV form competitive composition. UHD OLED TV has a high price but overwhelms QDTV with better performance. However, the higher the resolution, the harder it becomes for the OLED panel to secure a stable yield.
Nowadays, LG Display barely produce FHD OLED panels, but only focus on producing UHD OLED TV panels.
An official who is familiar with the inside affairs of LG Display said, “FHD OLED yields are as high as that of the LCD panel, but it is troubling how UHD OLED yields fall short of our expectations. The overall production plan has fallen as the production proportion of UHD OLED, which has a relatively low yield, was expanded. If LG Display secures the UHD OLED TV panel yield at a 70~80% rate this year, we are planning on increasing investment nearly double the amount of current output next year.”
LG Display has been building the 8th generation(2200×2500㎜) WRGB M2 line since 2012 in addition to the existing M1, for the expansion of the OLED business. The M2 line’s panel production goal is 26000 sheets per month, and started operating a 8000 sheet-scale portion in advance from last year.
LG Display had announced their plans to produce diverse large area UHD OLED panels including 55·65·77 inch-sized ones at the M2 line, but decided to concentrate on the 55 inch UHD OLED TV panel production because 65·77 inch-sized TVs are too expensive.
An industry official said, “If LG Display’s UHD OLED TV becomes firmly rooted in the market this year, other competing companies must also react to OLED TV or quickly start 8K UHD LCD panel production. We are at an important crossroads this year, where the mid-and-long-term winner will be determined.”

More info on the free WEBOS update for 2014 LG OLEDs previously mentioned here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=320

http://www.cnet.com/news/lg-updates-...to-web-os-2-0/

With the reported problems in high inventories of the LG 55EC9300 resulting in price cuts, this offers an added incentive to pick up a 1080P OLED.

Looks like they will be able to pretty soon. Found this comment to the Amazon review from the LG 65EG9600 owner that has been posting in the AVS Forum owner's thread.

I'm glad they didn't push the WebOS 2.0 update to 2014 tvs yet then. If they took my 4K Orphan Black away from me I might have to cut somebody.

The LG 65EG9600 is starting to show up in Magnolia BB. here and there across the country. I have read that LG didn't want them displayed before 2 May.

Also read that LG Display Exec. says the yield rate on the 1080P panels is now the same as the yield rate on their 1080P LCD panels. No confirmation of the yield rate on the UHD OLED panels yet.

I have been waiting for more than a year to actually get to see the 65” or 77” 4K OLED. But in my neighborhood (So. Calif.) There hasn't been a single set to be seen that I could find. I have called many Best Buys, Paul's TV, Fry's, etc. Not one. No, not one.)

Then two weeks ago, I heard Fry's in Las Vegas had both the 65" and 77" set up as demos.

A few days ago, I got in my car and drove 275 miles. It was easy to talk my wife into it. She likes to gamble a little.

Thursday morning, I stood in front of Fry's 15 minutes before they opened at 8:00 am. The doors were opened and I walked in. There they were. Set up in front of the store with their own special, designated spot. Both the 65" and 77” LG OLED's side by side.

The first item that I noticed was how small a 65” looks setting beside the 77”. Then, I was really shocked looking at the 77”. The IR/burn-in was terrible. All across the entire panel. What a shame. A $25,000.00 TV being marketed like it was some used TV from Goodwill.

I was told by the TV manager that the sets were brought in and turned on in January running a 2 minute video loop. For four months this two minute video has been continually running leaving a disaster across the panel. Sad, very sad

Bottom line is the PQ on both sets were beautiful and a 65EF9500 OLED will be my next upgrade.

that would piss me all kinds of off. I bought the floor display of my 55UB9500, and I grilled the guy at Magnolia about how they treat their tvs. He assured me that they're all powered down when the store is closed, so they're only on about 12 hours a day at most, and that they rotate between demo loops and full length blu-ray movies throughout the week. He pointed out that the tvs they had turned on at the moment, and not all of them were, were all running different content, some demo loops and some movies.

I wouldn't expect the same from Fry's. That place is 1 step above a warehouse.

The IR was bad very bad. I also went next day to Fry's to take a second look. I was going to take a couple I knew in Las Vegas with me to show them what an OLED is about. After I saw how bad IR was, I did not invite them.

They would have thought I was crazy.

that's really rough. I hope it didn't dissuade you though. Are you still on the hunt?

I'd think if you told the staff at your local Magnolia that you wanted to buy one they'd move heaven and earth to find one for you.

I wanted to finally see the 65 and 77 OLED.

My want is the 65EF9500 flat OLED and that doesn't pop out until around August. I will be calling Robert at V.E. I hope he will be doing a package deal like he did with my F8500 and that was to professionally break it in and have a pro calibrate it.

That cost me $500 but I didn't pay state tax of $265. Which in the long run ended up only cost me $235 more for the pro break-in and calibration over buying from a Magnolia store.

An LG 55EG9600 owner calibrated his display after 400+ hour break in.

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-ole...l#post33841482

A response to the above linked post from the calibrator who also owns the LG55EG960v in the UK. He has calibrated 18 960V's at this point.
If you own or plan to purchase one of these OLED displays, you should read this. It explains why near black performance of the OLED display with current content such as Blu-ray has issues. BD spec for contrast is .117 cd/m2 to 100 cd/m2. At this point, it seems, only the grading on Netflix originals like Daredevil can take advantage of OLED near black (below .117 cd/m2). Content needs to catch up with OLED. OLED pro monitors will help with that issue on the content provider side of the equation.

Hope you weren't too shocked/disappointed, as I was trying to keep your expectations tempered before you made the woeful Fry's visit (at least it was Vegas where the trip could still manage to be salvaged).

I have to wonder if those sets even get turned off properly at the end of the day. Power is most likely cut with a master switch so the aging compensation algorithm never even gets a chance to be implemented. I'm a bit shocked LG has allowed that to continue for 3 months now. For such costly sets in an abusive environment, they need to forgo the demos altogether and instruct the store to loop nothing short of a full feature film in 16:9/1.78:1. It may not be 4K (or may require some extra effort on the part of LG to provide for some feature-length 4K content), but to hell with it if that's the only means of preventing patently visible panel damage (if they wish to set it and forget it).

Check the comments and thumbnail in this comparison of the LG 55EG9600 and a GT30 plasma. Also there are about 5 reviews on Amazon now (LG55/65EG9600)
