The question is whether the internal chip on the 2015 LG OLED's can handle the HDR metadata through HDMI. The fact that they aren't talking about it implies that they don't think it will. However, once the UHD Alliance sets a UHD standard, new LG's displays will have the right chip. So, for now, HDR will be available through IP interface only with an update.( See Archer's Forbes article dtd 5/20/2015)

It will all be good by the time Ultra HD Blu-ray players reach the market. I'm waiting until 2016, when I believe these issues will settle before I look seriously at buying an OLED. I hope I have a couple more brands to choose from by then. Say, Sony or Samsung for example.
Good post

Two stories developing on the cause and solution to dark edges from UK owners who have had techs in to view the issue. One is replacement of a video processor board and power supply. (One owner reports that the components were replaced but the issue remains). The other, more recent fix, is panel replacement which is scheduled for July or August. See AV Forum (UK) LG 960V Owners thread for details.

Jimbo has moved on. I'm anxious for the EF9500 (not that I can afford it or anything, but that's what good credit is for! *gulp*).

Current 65-incher looks like a crapshoot, hopefully they've fingered it out and won't force people to play panel lottery much longer. What they've learned from it will hopefully be incorporated on the EF9500 indeed. *fingers crossed*

There's some anecdotal evidence at least that some June builds are showing edge-darkening improvements. I'm still bogged down in bills so this makes me more excited for the 9500.

Can't find any info on a LG 55EG9200.
Just noticed that model on the VE website, says it's available for pre-order and that's it's a fhd set

Are you sure? This implies the European version (920V) is 4K and the 910 is FHD. Pricing is getting very reasonable with these new displays.

When advanced information is listed it's always subject to change. However, from what I am told the new FHD, 1080p 55 OLED will be the 55EG9200 for the USA.

This is the successor the the well respected 55EC9300 and features webOS 2.0.

Thanks,

Also. It looks like LG will be releasing 5 new sets in Korea soon, including flat models http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20150727001118

"New Panels are in next week. People who have called in are on a list and should be expecting a call next week to schedule.

Also the VIP Care rep said I might be due for some extra compensation, no idea what it may be. STAY TUNED! " AVS Forum owners's thread.

If this is true, new sets with the fix should be available soon.

I hope so, because sets people are receiving even today are still looking hideous at 10% and 5%.

LG has confirmed by e-mail with several EG9600 owner's awaiting panel replacement for the dark edge issue that panels (about 100) are currently being tested and the owner's will be contacted next week to schedule the panel replacement. (AVS Forum owner's thread)

Nice win for LG's 4K OLED TV. Glad to see so many well respected reviews and accolades for this beautiful OLED display technology. Emissive technology paired with infinite contrast come together to help deliver LG's 4K OLED TV's exceptional overall image quality that's in a class by itself.

Since LG discontinued the 77" OLED TV so the largest 4K OLED TV is 65" and MSRP at this moment is $5k for the 55" and $7k for the 65" so the customer base is limited, but now that LGD is producing more large UHD OLED panels we may see prices drop.
