Humiliated again. Bunch of spineless freeloaders IMO.

As for England, Yep, No doubt We will fall to the penalty shoot out just like we always do.

You like the acronym ‘UHDTV’? Ergo, I’ll inform you another report by the UHDTV Ecosystem SG from SMPTE on said topic is imminent.

lol. You know semi-bro, it's just like a pet peeve, nothing more. But I'm actually very surprised at how many players are entering this new market. I honestly wasn't involved with HD until BDs came to market, so have no clue how it was in it's infancy, but it seems every other day someone somewhere shows 4K tech, and also, with improved specs over BD usually. I think 4K UHDTV UHD will show up in the home way faster than I would of thought possible.

Via streaming methods though. Here in the UK, I am sure it will be a while before the likes of the BBC jump on the bandwagon.

If you are talking of a 4k bluray then let's hope so. Like many have said though, the improvements beyond resolution are just as important. I leave that discussion to people better educated in the tech ins and outs than me.

Agreed Steed, it's just a sign of the times. Streaming is not new and that infrastructure is already in place so it's normal that until a hard format comes out, streaming will be used. And like "HD-ready" TVs, it will take some time to have a real solid infrastructure, and by then the 4Ks of today will not be 100%. It's all part of the growing pains. I think we need to see how all this plays out first before passing a final judgment. But we are fortunate, we have a really great format to use until. Let's just enjoy the ride!

I'm still a bit nervous about the fragile state of the TV market at the moment. I hope sooner rather than later something takes off.

I think what we are seeing now is the Japanese TV empire dying just like the US stronghold did, way back because of them. With producing in the US now even cheaper than Japan the next few years will depend on the Koreans (outsourcing to China) soon to be (relative here) dethroned by Chinese native companies. That should possibly bring to market cheap 4K (UHDTV hehe) good enough for the masses soon enough.

Also, TVs just don't last as long as the good old CRT (in my surroundings, the turnaround is about 4-7 years max), so everyone who has a HD set now will have to get UHDTV when they change, the manufacturers won't stop at HD because we wish it to be, they need the edge to sell, so bettering the next will always be the reasoning and driving force. Even the Chinese are coming to market with UHD, so chances are in 3-5 years max, HD sets just won't be available. The good thing though is that 1080p upscaled should look much nicer on a UHDTV than SD on HD. As long as stuff is backwards compatible I see no real problems with it at all, I welcome the possibilities.

It's just too early. Maybe we'll all sh*t our pants when exposed to true UHD programming on a solid backbone with much improved specs down the line and wonder why, oh why did it scare some so much. Wait 2 years and we should have a much better appreciation of the situation.

Turned my match off last night when Everton went up 3-0, will try again tonight and hope for some FX magic…http://arsenalfx.tv/ cause I fear that’s what we’ll need.

I recall your other pet peeve be RED.

Breaking news from RED at NAB 2014, is the REDRAY player is ready to ship out now…. really, no kidding as in taking orders and fulfillment is active…..i.e. no 1½ year waiting list as before. I’ll tell you though that if they are still using HDMI 1.4 as in the original spec….http://www.red.com/store/products/redray-player , the players seem hamstrung right out of the gate because if my caffeine has kicked in sufficiently, they’ll top out parameters at 2160 24/30Hz 4:4:4 @ 8bit, 2160 24/30Hz 4:2:2 @ 8-12 bit. Seems rather limiting for a pro level device.

*2160 = consumer 4K

It provided me an intro to plug The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). Two other reports due out shortly too.

Yep (they state 24 FPS) and it uses BT.709, so another nail above no content (though I've not checked where they are on that hehe). At this point I don't think I grasp exactly where they are going with it outside of digital signage and prosumers.

Most people are not going to spend more than $1,000 on a camcorder to take pictures here and there. And $1,500 at the most.

If you spend $2,000 or more you not taking pictures here and there.

I could count on my hands how many times I take pictires in year. And with it being so low people use cheap camcorder or smart phone to take pictures.

Which is why Penton Man stated that it depends on how important the hobby is. If you care enough about something you will spend the money. Not everyone is a 'good enough' type of person.

You got me I don’t know what on earth I was thinking. How could I be so incredibly stupid and insensitive with my last reply. I blame it all on spending too much time at the top of Mt. Everest without taking a hit off the supplemental oxygen – http://www.theonion.com/articles/top...hollywo,35706/

We’re blue chip types here (and big tippers too), whereas, I think some others are the pink sheet types.
