I’ll get to talking about the way(s) for delivering natively shot 120fps content (Hab’s hockey anyone?) into consumers’ homes later.

Scroll to about the 25min. timestamp to the beginning of the presentation with the results and conclusions concerning the *large screen testing* listed a few minutes after the 25min. mark …. b.t.w., for those that missed it, the perceptual EOTF webcast has now (as of today) been published on Youtube. |

The EPFL (in particular, the 2nd author of the paper linked here….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...dr#post8587823 being the presenter at ~ 49min.timestamp ) was another neutral lab involved in the testing and in contrast to EBU, they used side-by-side split screen testing methodology. I found it amusing when Touradj mentioned, paraphrasing here…*that unlike some of you guys (i.e. entertainment industry people in the audience), what we have at University is…..time….so we have the opportunity “to think”*, etc. Also amusing, 400 nits (ambient lighting) is great to “torture people”. Anyway, 1000 nits displays would not be a bad compromise, as 1-2% of that for ambient lighting would work out….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...86#post8865354 for everyone involved in the process. |

For example Dolby claimed that 90% of people liked having a peak luminance of 7000 nits but they were counting anyone who liked having a peak luminance below that level. In other words if Dolby had 10 people and asked them what peak luminance they liked with a short video clip they could get the following ten answers: 300 nits, 500 nits, 600 nits, 700 nits, 900 nits, 1000 nits, 2000 nits, 3000 nits, 7000 nits, 8000 nits. Based on those answers Dolby would say that 90% of people prefer 7000 nits. I understand why Dolby does that, they have a lot of high brightness LCD patents, but stuff like that makes me skeptical of their research. |

I believe Dolby is at least trying to be a bit more collaborative with everyone to which their extended dynamic range proposal would/could affect. Not to mention the fact I think it took some fortitude for Scott Daly to be present at the Q&A and sit through some of those comments made by Hans and Touradj. Of course, on the other hand, people tell me that’s nothing compared to being absolutely grilled during a noon conference potentially on a daily basis in front of your peers for 4 or 5 years…or more, as a part of enduring a medical or surgical residency. Anyway, as long as the outcome is good (better than what we have now with LDR…Low Dynamic Range TVs), I have no qualms as to a reasonable starting point for HDR, be it the Dolby Vision ecosystem, Technicolor’s solution, etc. |

I am hoping that some of the World Cup matches (such as the final match) are availiable in 4K for home viewing. If I remember correctly, is there not any architecture in place for satelite streaming of 4K material for viewing in movie theaters?

![]() but this is the last publicity blurb from one of the delivery stakeholders…. “confirmed that his company and select rights holder are indeed devising a plan to deliver these 4K productions live. Currently, the stakeholders intend to place Ultra HDTVs at select pubs and other viewing areas in the given countries of the rights holders, enabling consumers to watch the matches live in the format.” http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/beh...lanning-700580 Steed, in the Sports forum, I see no mention/or thoughts about the news yesterday regarding Roy Hodgson naming England's squad for the World Cup. Whaz up? ![]() ![]() Singhcr, In the meantime, if you get beIN Sports USA, the final match is this weekend for determining the champions of La Liga and just so happens to be between the current #1 and #2 teams….pretty unique ![]() |
