![]() Another color grading space setting available is called S-Gamut3/S-Log3 which is almost as large as the camera native color space, and wider than S-Gamut3.Cine. This space is workable for ACES and ITU-R BT.2020, if needed. ![]() I would say that all of the above is fairly well known amongst the professional cine camera community…..at least those familiar with Sony cine cameras, but one thing which is rather unknown and I guess could be considered quite cutting edge info is offered at the bottom of the cartoon included in this post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post11036609 Note: if you’ve already finished your project and desire to remaster for optimal HDR, best to have shot in 16bit linear RAW ->16bit OpenEXR file format (sorta keeping in an ACES framework) -> OpenEXR 16bit master (this workflow having already been successfully performed at Technicolor for a fairly recent feature film involving the interaction between humans and mammals ![]() |

This may be less technical for easier-on-the-mind
![]() Not from the SMPTE Technology Committees(and subgroups meetings) per se in Australia, but rather from the exhibition floor and not Bram, as in Stoker’s Dracula , but from another Bram discussing the challenges for display manufacturers with regards to producing HDR tvs/monitors (esp. OLED manufacturers)…..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KddA...utu.be&t=6m30s |

"We don't compress it. We are putting over 400 megabits per second on the screen, and we can do more." - IMAX president
http://www.komonews.com/news/local/I...301930881.html The journalist obviously meant megabytes, not bits. Looks like he's claiming an IMAX laser DCP of something like Interstellar comes in at around 4 TB. Hm. |

Fox Advanced Tech group has generated some 2160p59.94 HDR (PQ EOTF) P3 color space footage (02:50 TRT) of a fire pit (think log-burning). It’s free to be used for lab work, demos, trade shows, etc. The material be in TIFF files. Fox requests that you send them a >= 1 TB USB drive for the dept. to copy the files to and a return shipping sticker. Contact Thomas Edwards in the smart people dept.
Have a good weekend folks ![]() |

Native vs Fake 3D list: http://realorfake3d.com/ 3D needs to die fast. I am glad 3D did not made it to the UHD spec. 3D is blocking the 4K path, real hard. I have seen an inside list of Sony, and lots of 3D movies are 2 DI. And some 2D versions did get 4K DI's. The Smurfs 2 is a good example: 4K Mastered (2D only) ![]() Last edited by Pieter V; 08-17-2015 at 06:08 PM. |

That reference to 2D only is (I believe) regarding the expanded color.
Both versions 3D and 2D I would think were taken from the same 4K DI master. But even though Smurfs 2 is mastered in 4k, that only applies to the live action scenes, not the animation (which happens to be a huge chuck of the movie). |
