After a lot of faffing all morning (trying to organise family members), we finally booked 6 tickets for Saturday 19th at 5:30pm in IMAX 3D at ODEON Southampton (UK). Decent spot too, not too far back and bang in the middle.

Tried to go for Thursday night, but as I said we were dawdling and by lunchtime most tickets were sold out for the 8:45pm showing on that opening day...so now I will have to stay off all forums and message boards for a couple of days. Good to get some peak time tickets though, and no problems around late nights or skipping work as it'll be on the weekend!

Have a feeling this film will single handedly blow all records out of the water in terms of sales, but that's a given. People mention certain James Cameron films as box office successes, but Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon that cannot be stopped.

That actually wouldn't surprise me.

Although if you buy online some cinemas require you to present the card that you used to pay as proof you're the person that bought them.

If someone getting them at the counter though then nothing stopping them selling them on at silly prices.

We booked gallery seats at the local Odeon Cardiff bay. Expensive but it's over 18a only which is good. Unlimited drinks and popcorn/nachos and a segregated seating area. Although dead center was long gone by the time the site finally let me order so we're just of centre by two seats which I think I can deal with.

I will be getting tickets about 15 minutes before showtimes on opening day.

This thing is gonna be on so many screens and have so many showtimes it is not gonna be a problem to get tickets.

I remember opening day of dark knight rises being scared tickets would sell out. Even went to a bigger town to see it at like 11 am in the morning. And aside from my party of 3 there was one other guy in the whole theater

Methinks VII will be a wee bit bigger than TDK.
Of course every area will be different. Since the wife and I never get to the theatre much, unless it's kids movies...we will have tickets well in advance!

Yeah, unless you want to see it in IMAX, you should be able to get tickets pretty easily. Unlike the 35mm days, theaters can now easily show a film on tons of screens and add showings with digital projection, and even if the place I hope to see the film (the Ziegfeld theater in New York, which is not yet decided between Force Awakens DCP and Hateful Eight 70mm but leaning Star Wars apparently) is a single screen movie palace style, they have over 1100 seats and are never even close to half full with things like Age of Ultron opening night.

Btw, saw this BRILLIANT post about the poster from artist Mark Raats. I've loved his recent artwork for the films. Pretty much sums up my thoughts:

Quote:
I have received many emails and notes asking for my opinion on the new Star Wars poster so let me put down my thoughts regarding the piece.

Before I begin though, I'd like to thank many of my insanely talented Lucasfilm artist peers - Joe Corroney and Randy Martinez et al - who have said that I should have done it in Drew's absence, Cheers folk, I am truly honored but back at all of you because there are many, many of you who could certainly have hit this deeply coveted assignment out of the park instead of me....

Do I like it?
No I don't because its in my opinion, a tragic mishmash of ideas, floating heads and cliche's that try to convince us that its a Drew equal. Its appallingly busy, orange and blue, full of conflicting perspective points that undermine the rhythm of the piece and there is no direction to lead the viewers eye - just a lot of visual noise that does not engage me any way or form.

Is it artist Bryan Morton's fault? I doubt it because I know that he's had to endure a torrid time navigating the wall of executive opinions, endless demands and constant calls for layout reworks. My friend and fellow artist Tom Hodges said in a recent post that it looks like artwork designed by a committee and I couldn't agree more.

I AM surprised and deeply saddened that Drew wasn't involved because his understated sophistication is sorely missed (ummm.... less is more Disney fella's) and his grasp of layout, rhythm and above all, illustration excellence would have resulted in an unforgettable result. I am NOT surprised though that given Drew's absence that this is the result because, I believe that Disney is striving to emulate the success they have had with the Marvel franchise and lets be honest, almost every one of those posters are profoundly tiresome in their overworked, PhotoShop madness..

All of the above said I know that being a grumpy old man means that I am certainly NOT the target audience and because of this I'd like to think that the spin-doctors and the focus groups within Disney have done their homework - or at least I sincerely HOPE they have.

P.S. Where the hell is LUKE??!!!

I'll order my tickets tomorrow since I get paid then. I'm going to see this at the Alamo Drafthouse so I want to get the best seats possible.

Like what I'm seeing (the shot with Rey looking up) with the SFX. Looks way better than what we saw in the prequels. The ships don't look like they were pasted in.

My point is: they've been posted and re-posted ad nauseam since they premiered yesterday.

I have a feeling the final trailer will debut sometime before the game starts. I'm keeping my Twitter notifications on all day. I just want my ticket!

It's happening during halftime. They NEVER put something up-front like that. They're doing this for ratings and they KNOW people will keep their TV's on until halftime.

It debuts during halftime. Too bad I don't have cable, but it will surely be online soon after so.
