There's nothing wrong with lens flares that are unavoidable due to the lens and lighting. That is fine.

Abrams, however, goes out of his way to have lens flares all over the place, even at times having so many that they wash out actors faces. That is annoying. Thankfully, even he admitted that he toned it down considerably for Star Wars.

There were lens flares in the original trilogy too. There are no direct references to the prequels because it was over 50 years ago. What would they even reference?

Finn: Goodness, how about that time mace Windu sat and talked to Plo-Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi?

Rey: What are you talking about? Who are these people? Huh?
Well im going to spoilertag it none the less.

[Show spoiler]There are lensflares and then there are J.J. Abrams LENS FLARES

And ofcourse that is the only way they could nod at EP 1-3.. Maz has been around for 1000 years, no way she'd remember something that happened a whopping 50 years ago..

With Startrek Abrams did a reboot so a new style was ok, here he is continuing on 6 existing movies and should have stayed true to the style in which the other movies have been made, ex. no shakycam and no lensflare. Lensflare has not bothered me before in Super 8, Startrek etc. but here it only ruined the Starwars feel, didnt add anything posive I think.

Also, as with Into Darkness being almost a Wrath of Kahn clone, this also felt like an Episode 4 'rip-off'. Very cowardly executed. Fun, but NOT original.

Also, having a bunch of Ep 4-6 References (mostly 4) and no Ep 1-3 references is an insult to Starwars as a whole. Ep 1-3 are 100% Starwars movies, and even though alot of haters will support the choice to exclude them, agree with them I do not

Watching it for third time tomorrow
Regarding prequels:

[Show spoiler] Didn't Kylo Ren and Hux have a hissy fit about training Stormtroopers in which Ren said something about it's better to use Clone Troopers rather than brainwashing newer recruits?"

Why would they? Even JJ knows those Prequels sucked and in a round about way has admitted as much. Best just to put those three films on an "extras" disc when they put a box set together for films IV-IX. Maybe title the disc how not to make a SW film. I put this new film at about #3 on a best of SW list. Just a wonderful job!

What some people think about certain installments of the Starwars saga is irrelevant, it is episode 7 and thus should treat all 6 previous episodes with the respect they deserve as the official backstory.

"Sith" got a namecheck. The only direct reference to the prequels.

Regarding Kylo Ren:
[Show spoiler]
If the dude's real name is Ben Solo, is it possible that he is actually Luke's son? In the alternate sw universe, Luke and Mara Jade have a kid named Ben Skywalker. maybe Luke ran out and left the kid to Han and Leigh?

Checking in from the Santikos Palladium. One movie down, six to go in the SW marathon. Place is packed. Filled to the brim with obese, balding, 40+ year old men wearing bathrobes and waving light sabers. My mother in law just asked me if there were any women in the audience. I told her I thought so, but I'd have to look closely to make sure.

San Antonio media is here, shooting pictures and video. Crowd is awfully quiet. A few people made a game attempt at laughing at Jar-Jar, but that lasted about a minute...then just stone cold silence for the rest of the film. I suspect some of the people in attendance have seen these fims before.

Laser projection turns out to be a bit oversold. You're basically looking at a giant 4k HD tv screen. The Dolby Atmos sound, on the other hand, is a thrill. Anyway, now off to hear teenage Anakin complain about sand.

Well honestly even if I were still a Star Warrior I wouldn't have done the super marathon. Both because 15-17 hours is just too much and because I wouldn't have been able to afford the food, the tickets or the time off from work.

At the SW marathon. Prequels are done. OT kicks off soon. Looks like Force Awakens merchandise will be on sale later.

So your saying
[Show spoiler]Luke got down with Leia lol they made it very clear that Kylo Ren (Ben) is Han and Leia's kid that they sent to Luke to train but he was seduced by the dark side and joined the Knights of Ren and massacred Luke's new Jedi order.

If anyone is Luke's kid its going to be Rey.

[Show spoiler]No, in a SW novel, Luke and a woman who was Hand of the Emperor fall in love and have children. That child is not from Leia Solo.
