YOUR opinion, which I completely disagree with. As you say you're a Star Wars amateur. Let's leave it there.

The amount of little things I've picked up in each viewings is surprising. I saw it 4 times in 3 days, starting with Thursday at 7pm. Needless to say, it's right there with the OT for me, blows the prequels away, and takes me back to a time when Star Wars films were great.

Question Anyone see this in IMAX 3D?

Hey guys, I have been thinking about seeing Ep.VII in IMAX 3D, I have never seen a film in IMAX 3D. Honestly I do not care for 3D a whole lot, plus the ticket price jumps up to about ~$18 vs ~$9.50 for a regular show. Is IMAX 3D worth the extra $$ or not so much? Sorry for not doing a thread search first. thanks

So I saw the film last night in IMAX 3D and it was incredible. I have been a huge fan of Star Wars my entire life. I think my biggest problem with it:

[Show spoiler]Was the rehash/remake of A New Hope. The film was almost identical to it in every way. Sure characters names have been changed and there are minor differences in plot, but the main course of events are identical, with the exception of the ending, which I felt was unnecessary and should have been left like Empire Strikes Back. Much better ending IMHO. Also, hated how they killed Han (Which we all knew was coming a mile away). I was hoping for a better tribute ending, to one of the Galaxies Greatest Heros, but Nope ... instead he is speared by his son and thrown aside. No funeral or sad song, just dead. DAMN. Suppose its similar to Old Ben's death in that way, which again ties to ANH. But at least Ben ghost voice remains to make us feel a little better.

I am just disappointed that it wasn't an original movie as a whole. The prequels may have sucked but the one thing the prequels have over this film is that they were original. Hell I would rather they have stolen ideas from the expanded universe, which were ten times more original ... STAR WARS: LEGACY I am looking at you. But nope, instead we got a remake of A New Hope.

Oh well. Maybe the next one.

The 3D is well done and did not make me nauseous as often happens. In general it is subtle and adds depth. Honestly I think 2D IMAX would be ideal, but that isn't an option for most people. The great sound and size of IMAX make it worth it, and the 3D -while not adding a lot- doesn't take away from it either.

I would say yes, go for it, even if you aren't a huge 3D fan, it's worth it to me for better, more comfortable seats (it should be anyway), a much larger screen, and much, much better sound (again, should be) than a regular theater.

I somewhat agree. But there were some pretty cool 3D scenes, such as snow falling in 3D that did immerse you more during the scene. Or when lightsabers or x-wings popped out of the screen. I think overall, its just made the experience better and the 3D was very well done. IMAX is a for sure. Don't waste your money on standard screens, IMAX is a must way to watch.

"Did you see the new Mad Max movie?"
"Yeah, it was great! Reminded me so much of the last half hour of The Road Warrior!"
"Did you see the new James Bond movie?"
"Yeah, it was great! All the things I look for in a Bond movie!"
"Did you see the new Rocky movie?"
"Yeah, it was great! I love those movies! Underdog always comes out on top, or at least beats the crap out of the bad guy in the last round!"
"Did you see the new Star Wars movie?"
"Yeah, it was okay, but it was too similar to the others."

I've always thought it was amusing that people use the whole similar to other movies thing as an argument, either for or against the quality of a movie. Spoiler alert, Episode VIII probably won't be all that groundbreaking either, if Episode VII and the last two ST films are any indication.
