Ridiculous. The ot is in the top 250 movies ever made for a reason. Theyre all solid films, two are outright classics. Fans and critics agree. The pt is inferior. The reviews are not "insanely dumb", its the apologists who sound like broken records trying for the last 10 years to convince others and possibly themselves that those shit movies were on the same level as the uot that are insanely dumb.

The only people I know who liked Episodes 1 and 2 were hard-core SW fans. Everyone else I've ever met in my life had serious issues with them. And even the hard-core SW fans are split.

I'm confident Disney is going to emulate the high adventure, vibrant characters, archetypal drama, sincere lessons of good and evil, and flat-out fun of the OT when approaching Episode VII. In fact, I expect SW and Empire to be the models moving forward.

I agree I hope Ep. 7 blows us away. Of course our expectations won't be nearly as high as Ep. 1. But even in hindsight I can't ever get behind Ep.1.

Just relax people. Disney knows that the Star Wars sufferred some because of the prequel trilogy regardless of whether fans loved it or hated it. Part of the problem with the prequels is most every fan had their preconceived notion of what it should be.... add to it Lucas' poorly written script, trying to interweave too many ideas/storylines/characters and bad humor into it didn't help. But remember most critics and audiences were satisfied with III in spite of those faults that continued. I rank III ahead of VI in fact I would put it just behind IV.

The same thing is going to happen again with some fans thinking their preconceived ideas should be part of the new movies. We are already hearing some fans demanding that it be based on the Zahn 'Heir to Empire' trilogy and desparately wanting Thrawn in it.

Let it go people. That Zahn trilogy is twenty years old and it was done to see if there was still interest in SW. Call it 'canon' or whatever. To the average SW fans its all about the movies. I don't care if the new movies blow away all that exterior EU element.

But with all the the work that has gone into the EU over the decades that does give Disney a wealth of ideas to draw upon for storylines without having to faithfully make a beat to beat film based on a story from the EU which I think is the more realistic expectations fans should have.

Disney paid the money for the rights to the future films, this is where the real value of SW exists. The future of it and not the past including the UOT and PT. The fact is that if this deal didn't happen SW would most likely be dead in another decade. This is the best possible thing that could have happened for the casual SW fan.

Disney will either make us forget Episodes I-III ever happened, or Episodes IV-IX will be even more 'kiddy-oriented'.....containing a plethora of Jar-Jar-type characters, farting aliens and a c.g.i. Hayden Christensen thrown in just to enrage people.

I hope not either, however.....toys, rides, etc. all tie into their profits and if you thought EP I-III's merchandising was a lot, these will be ten-fold. I will remain skeptical until its release.

I personally believe that it is the uot fans, who wanted to experience the magic they had experienced in '77 once again, but had turned into men, who along the way, had lost their inner child, who hated on them so passionately, and people who let themselves be swept away by the criticism of the uot fans. It's hip to hate on the prequels, and on jar jar binks in particular.

I am not saying the prequels are without their faults, but neither is the ot or uot, if you will. Many uot fans are still wearing their pink glasses when it comes to judging the uot, but take them off instantly when viewing the ot, or the prequels. That's a fact, and i get it. It's a combination of a lot of nostalgia, and unforgettable memories, that are unique, but let's be a bit more realistic here, shall we?
For instance, the insanely dumb reviews by the prequels basher, could be done about almost any film out there, including the uot.

Point is: All of the episodes are still leaps and bounds better than most every other blockbuster that has come and gone since, because the story is timeless. It's an epically told spiritual morality tale, packed into a grand space opera setting.

May the new ones continue this tradition, and stay true to what made sw so special in the first place.

I’m hearing that Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-Ass, Stardust, Layer Cake, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks with Lucasfilm to helm Star Wars: Episode VII. My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing). Hit the jump for more.

What I think the UOT fans are blind to is the Prequels DID make a shit ton of money, Disney is not interested one bit in fanboy squabbles, if they were they would never have even considered getting their hands on Marvel, you think Star Wars fans are babies try talking to a comic book fan, they don't give a shit what the fans say, the prequels made mountains of cash and that is all Disney needs to know.

Also consider this, the world has changed, all those kids who grew up on the prequels to them THAT is Star Wars, those are the target audience now, not the old timers who can't let go of the past. Sorry guys but I am afraid they are NOT going to even take fan noise into consideration. Also this is friggin Disney, even their best movies have cringe worthy moments, no movie, not even the beloved Empire Strikes Back, is perfect.

I honestly don't really care who directs the new films. I am however interested in who writes the screenplays. I would appreciate it if whenever a character gets ready to open their mouth to say something I don't cringe.

I also think that Dave Filoni would be an excellent choice...he's been doing some really good stuff with the Clone Wars animated series.

I don't agree with all the decisions he's made LATELY and I will always be grateful for the wonderful childhood he helped give me. Being a kid in the late 70's and the 80's was amazing because of him.

All we can do at this point is wish him and each other well.

I hated Kick-Ass...stopped during the Banana Splits sequence. Just didn't think it was funny or ironic, I thought it was just incredible bad taste.
