This probably has been posted about in here but I'm adding my two cents in about this. Be aware that spoiler information contains MAJOR, MAJOR news about Rey and who she really is, confirmed by HASBRO and sent into panic mode by Lucasfilm, which has resulted in a lot of drama.

IN the course of this past week, Walmart accidentally sold copies of a Rey action figure in some of their stores. Apparently, the consumer, an avid Star Wars fan, purchased the figure legally in a Walmart store, since it was placed on a shelf in the toys section, went home, took pictures of the figure, and posted them online. The images on the Rey figure packaging contained major MAJOR spoilers about who Rey really is and hinted in a major plot development. This sent Lucasfilm into PANIC MODE, where copyright lawyers attempted to send out DMCA notices, even though there was nothing about the image itself that violated any copyright. Many websites have talked about this:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2...ht-at-walmart/

The image in question? Please, do not reveal the spoiler information if you don't want to know:

[Show spoiler]

While the notice wasn't sent from Hasbro, it was Lucasfilm who tried to shut it down, to no avail. The image has vent viral in a way that has been unprecedented . From the Arstechnica article above, I agree with what the Mitch Stolz of the Electronic Frontier Foundation had said about the issue:

"Yes there's a copyright, but I don't think that entitles Disney and Lucasfilm to try to make that image disappear from the Internet," he said. "Someone may have screwed up, and violated an agreement as to when the toys would hit the shelves. But that doesn't make a photo of a toy forbidden information."

When you walk into a store and purchase any kind of merchandise and post images of it online, that's called fair use. But, what is intriguing is the major spoiler that can be seen on the package itself, was has now been confirmed:

[Show spoiler]Rey is a force sensitive Jedi Knight. She comes equipped with a lightsaber and she is wielding a lightsaber on the factory packaging for the figure.

Walmart may have messed up by putting the toy out for sale, but the drama this figure has created does not violate the law. I just love what this figure just confirmed for fans everywhere. HINT: It's legacy.

This is not a "MAJOR MAJOR" anything.

While this is a "spoiler" in a sense, this doesn't tell you "who she is" or confirm that she is a
[Show spoiler]"force sensitive Jedi knight"
as you put it. It just confirms that at some point she will
[Show spoiler]wield Anakin/Luke's saber. She's not a Jedi knight till she completes her training.
But beyond that, its just not that much of a spoiler: the main character will at some point
[Show spoiler]wield the macguffin of the movie.
I think anyone could have guessed that since everyone already thinks she's
[Show spoiler]Han & Leia's daughter.

As to the "controversy" over this toy image, its just overblown clickbait. Yes, Disney asked facebook to take it down, but they do that crap all the time. Its normal.

Guess who is watching all seven SW films in Laser Projection next Thursday?
decided to skip Laser in favor of 15/70; if the movie is good enough I'll probably see it again anyway (already seeing it twice) and will hit up the Laser theater.

I think it's hilarious that Lucasfilm is so worried about releasing any details about the plot that they haven't even bothered to release those movie synopsis descriptions about what the movie is about. Every major Hollywood studio releases some kind of brief synopsis but, as always, not only did Lucasfilm lie to fans but so did Kathleen Kennedy. I can understand Lucasfilm wanting to keep details about the movie secret but this smacks of idiot, moronic J.J. Abrams is not revealing anything about the movie he's producing. The man is a sociopath and I expected better from Lucasfilm. Instead, they got sucked into demands from Abrams, AGAIN.

But, I disagree that what I posted isn't considered major. The fact that she is wielding a very specific weapon is a major spoiler that nobody at Lucasfilm wanted revealed before the movie was released. But, to slap legal sanctions on websites because someone posted a photograph of the toy/spoiler, it's ridiculous. If anything, Lucasfilm should have been more forthcoming.

Hell, you can't find out anything about the new Star Wars movie because J.J. Abrams has infected Hollywood with the type of security that is usually the purview of national security interests.

There's one organization that's doing the line thing for charity, not sure if it's the one in these photos.

My screening has reserve seats. My Sunday IMAX 3D screening also has reserve seating. Absolutely no reason in the world to camp out for a week. I am assuming the Chinese theater still doesn't have reserve seating. It would be sad if these people were camping out in line for first crack at the snack bar.

I think some of them are just trying to prove how much they love the films but the brutal truth is all they're proving is they have no life.

Yep. I've got my seat already booked. If you're that big of a fan, just buy a ticket to one of those screenings. If you don't have a theater that does reserve seating nearby, just get in line the day of the movie a few hours early. That's all it'll take.

I know I'm going all Shatner on SNL, but seriously, it's just a movie, people. We don't even know if it's actually good. You'd think everyone would be especially cautious after the prequels turned out the way they did.

Hell, you can't find out anything about the new Star Wars movie because J.J. Abrams has infected Hollywood with the type of security that is usually the purview of national security interests.
I get that you find JJ's secrecy annoying, however, in this day and age, it is refreshing to see a film maker have that kind of passion for wanting his audience to see a movie and be completely surprised. I find NOTHING wrong with that. With the internet at everyone's disposal, and constant leaks and rumors and videos and interviews making their rounds, it can be annoying to some that when they actually sit down to watch the movie, there is nothing really left except to see the action unfold, but already know the outcome.

When I accidentally stumbled upon bits of Episode II (Jango Fett killed by Mace Windu for example), I was kind of mad at myself for reading that much.

Remember, years ago, we didn't have the luxury of information at our fingertips, and if you want to talk about a director having control of his audience, check out what Hitchcock did for audiences who were trying to see Psycho in the 1960s:

http://www.openculture.com/2012/07/a..._ipsychoi.html

I'm glad that he is trying to make this an experience for all of the lifelong Star Wars fans and the new generation, ready to experience this universe for the first time!

I'll be honest about how I personally felt, standing in line with my brother and father in 1983, getting to the theatre for Jedi, and hearing it was sold out...we had 2 hours until the next showing, and all we knew was STAR WARS! We didn't have spoilers or rumors to think about. Heck, we even got a movie guide of sorts while we were waiting and saw pictures of this "half-destroyed" Death Star! I was 6 and a half, and I didn't know anything!

I wish all filmgoers could experience that kind of "ignorance" before heading into something as big and important (to some) as Star Wars and just be totally blown away.

Thanks for listening!

Whilst I have figured out most of what happens in TFA there is still some things I don't know so it'll be nice going in next Thursday and getting some surprises. Some trailers these days just spoil plot twists, so I'm thankful Disney and JJ did not go overboard.
