I'm heading out for work, but a one-sentence-review at least seems to be in place. So here we go...
Highly enjoyable and extremely well-made, but in the end, it basically is sort of a remake of the story told in Episode 4, which is a bit disappointing...

Just a reminder:
While it's a silly concept for older generations to even consider The Force Awakens to be better or as special as the original trilogy, younger generations will.

I rate the original trilogy and The Force Awakens as all 5 out of 5 Star Wars films with my favorite being Return of the Jedi.

So dont be alarmed or surprised that we will see younger generations rate these films from best to worst as something like this:
1. The Force Awakens
2. Revenge of the Sith
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Empire Strikes Back
5. The Phantom Menace
etc., etc...

Open-minded, we must be.

Way too early to tell yet dude, early reviews of such a hyped film mean little, gotta give it at least 3 weeks to let the dust settle.

Any final credit scenes to wait around for? anyone check?

IIRC, Abrams himself confirmed no mid-credits or post-credits scene/clip/teaser of any kind. The fact that we haven't heard about it here by now AKA spoiled should more or less back that up.

Well, I really cannot contradict whis, but as someone who doesn't really hate the prequels that much there are a couple of nice references/in-jokes about the clone wars, I can remember at least one for sure.

1. I remembered that J.J. Abrams was directing this and I haven't particularly liked any of his work.

2. I'm currently rewatching the prequel trilogy (rewatched the original trilogy earlier this week) and I'm just now realizing how ****ing terrible they are.

3. There's a tendency to put out mediocre products when capitalizing on a massive franchise.

4. It seems a little weird that
[Show spoiler]a main character is going to be killed off so early in the new trilogy.
The problem with Abrams were his incompetent screenwriters, here while the screenplay isn't some uber masterwork of writing (it isn't at all) it's tons better than what is usually associated with his productions.

[Show spoiler]The planet that we see the first person perspective being destroyed is Coruscant? They name the system but not the planets and then nobody ever mentions it again!

Thank you all for using spoiler tags. I wont be able to see it for a long while... cannot go to theaters... but I would like to be at least a little surprised. Going to be tough and afaik there is no general release date. I am sure Disney wants to get as much box office it could possibly can to reach at least the #3 slot for money making.

Why can't you see it in theatres if you don't mind me asking?

[Show spoiler]I don't think so, it's never stated in the movie, it was presumably the closest republic system that could support the Resistance.

The endcredits are in 3D and there's someone in the credits named Saw Ronald Hay Gay which ofcourse gave me a chuckle

Star Wars 4.5/5, a true celebration for the imagination,
[Show spoiler]not perfect but do love the characters, they each have great moments, Bar Phasma, who had held my attention during the trailers over the months. felt she was reduced to a sideshow.

The Visuals are incredible, never felt like you are watching characters in front of a green screen, the whole experience was entirely organic.
Did note a degree of pixelation around a particular shuttle as it raised its wings to land in one scene only. ooh and a bit of ghosting for the 3d...despite that, best use of 3d ever.

there is an inherent trait in J.J Abrams movies, there seems a sterility that weighs down the energy in what he is trying to achieve, I can't lock it down, its in the acting, perhaps its about trying to eviscerate emotion, sometimes it just isn't there, its in his filming technique I can watch what transpires and not be connected. This despite the fact that the characters themselves have great moments haha.

It's not blatant, but it is recognizable, it's like a box that was never fully unlocked.

and I keep seeing it...thats about the best as I could explain it. as much as love his trek movies, I don't feel they are fully realized. my emotional investment in Trek tides me over on that subject.

But those flaws aside, Rey & Finn share chemistry, Ren is great, I can see how he has family resemblance. Chewy and Han great comic relief, and I adore BB8, his "Thumbs up" had the crowd in raptures.

FAV MOMENTs, the new Death Star unleashes fury on a star system. Rey and Ren interrogation scene, as she discovers her connection with the force and then uses jedi mind trick, the 3d itself, tops!

its my 3rd favourite SW movie behind the original of 77 and its sequel in 80.

Well
[Show spoiler]that's good to hear, lol. Honestly my fiancé would have been PISSED if she died. Disney would have been stupid to kill her off in one film. That was the biggest mistakes of the prequels: constantly killing off the bad guys like they were tissue paper.

I really liked a lot about it. And I'm glad that the spoiler that was the name of articles on the internet that I simply couldn't avoid turned out not to be true. I thought we might have another Kahn situation on our hands, but it wasn't so. And what twists there were, I was like, wow!
It was funny having JJ Abrams style in a SW film too. Although, it feels like he got bored of himself. There was all this lens flare, shaky cam and modern humour at the start, but it got really Star Warsy by the end.
But, most odd of all; did anyone feel this was just a remake of the original film? Replace some characters, places and names and you have the same film. The plans in the droid, the secret weapon, the farm kid turned Jedi, cantina, death of a legend, the attack on the weapon. It's all there.
Very fun though. Maybe 8/10, though my opinion may change.
[Show spoiler]This is the summary that best describes my feelings after watching it twice.

With Startrek Abrams did a reboot so a new style was ok, here he is continuing on 6 existing movies and should have stayed true to the style in which the other movies have been made, ex. no shakycam and no lensflare. Lensflare has not bothered me before in Super 8, Startrek etc. but here it only ruined the Starwars feel, didnt add anything posive I think.

Also, as with Into Darkness being almost a Wrath of Kahn clone, this also felt like an Episode 4 'rip-off'. Very cowardly executed. Fun, but NOT original.

Also, having a bunch of Ep 4-6 References (mostly 4) and no Ep 1-3 references is an insult to Starwars as a whole. Ep 1-3 are 100% Starwars movies, and even though alot of haters will support the choice to exclude them, agree with them I do not

Watching it for third time tomorrow

Ok, I'm not even going to spoiler tag this, because it just needs to be said:

There were lens flares in the original trilogy too. There are no direct references to the prequels because it was over 50 years ago. What would they even reference?

Finn: Goodness, how about that time mace Windu sat and talked to Plo-Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi?

Rey: What are you talking about? Who are these people? Huh?
