But yeah I'm heading over to the spoiler thread to avoid clogging this one up.

Just got back from watching it. I really enjoyed it as I knew I would however it's not without it's faults. The biggest one being, what everyone has mentioned so far, it does feel like a rehash of what's been done already. I get the feeling that they played it safe and stuck with the winning formula from the original trilogy and then pulled on our heart strings a little by adding our favourite actors, something the new trilogy didn't have. This could have been it's saving grace because people love nostalgia, they know this and used it to help win fans over. My question is, how well received would it have been without the old cast and how well will it do in the future without having them as a draw card. Having said that though, the final scene gave me big goosebumps and I haven't had that feeling during a movie for a looooong time. So well played Disney/JJ, you bastards.

As I mentioned, at times it kind of felt like a reboot using the same old plot. What won me over was the great acting and the extremely likeable new actors and characters. They did a great job in casting and kudos to them for going out on a limb...the young blood are great and work well together. The overall feel of the film did sit closer to the original trilogy which is why I think it's appealing to everyone. It's definitely got JJ Abrams written on it but it does well to blend in with the universe. Once it got going it felt like a rollercoaster ride on different planets...possibly at times it went a little too fast...but again, that's JJ's style.

I really want to watch it again though and for that, they did their job well. Can't wait to see what they do with the sequels...though I have a rough idea where it's headed...

Did anyone get some good merchandise from the cinema? Here's mine:

Just to address some of the things being argued here
[Show spoiler]It's like many people are forgetting what Kylo Ren said to Snoke about Rey's power and then to the storm troopers "find her quickly, the longer it takes the stronger she will become". As for him fighting Finn, and the excuse of "well Ren got shot" is being highly undersold especially since he was shot by Chewie's Blaster which again was shown multiple times previously in the movie as being a lot more powerful than any other Blaster. Add the actual severity of the injury, the complete wave of rage/emotions after doing what he just did to his father, and that it is clear Kylo Ren is more adept at his force abilities than his light saber skills and its a perfect mixture of recklessness that will result in Finn lasting as long as he did.

Anyways carry on and I'll move to the spoiler thread as well.

I never mentioned this yet, so i thought i should, but the new characters were all great and likable, i was worried they wouldn't be able to hold their own, like so many new faces, but these roles were all very well cast

I got a cup with a bust of Rey that could be attached to the cap of the cup, the cup itself has stormtroopers on it.... i would match rather have what you scored!

Also, I didn't know this at the time, but there was special edition 3D glasses to be purchased -_-

[Show spoiler]When he said that, I immediately thought: "The daughter of Skywalker must not become a Jedi" (with all due respect to Emperor Palpatine in ROTJ)

Yeah, that's a good point. I kind of figured they might have rewrote the rules a bit though, since Luke's light saber blade looks nothing like the ones from the previous movies. Rough and flickery rather than smooth and solid. Also, the saber clashed with the storm trooper weapon rather than slicing through it, maybe it had some kind of shield, but in previous movies, saber pretty much penetrated anything except other sabers.
In the prequels
[Show spoiler]there were magnetic staves that could be used against lightsabers, the droids with grievous in epIII use them.

More theaters need to switch to reserved seating. The Majestic close to me has dream lounger recliners and full service bistro and lounge. I refuse to wait in lines anymore...

I loved the Film, J.J. Abrams had an impossible job....

How could he please die-hard Star Wars fans and introduce this Myth-Fantasy to a new audience without disappointing someone?

I think this is Classic Star Wars - I was shocked, amazed and entertained.

The story was simple, characters were developed and this was definitely in the tradition of the original 3 films.

Return Of The Jedi had lots of A New Hope's themes and activities revisited, so it sees appropriate that The Force Awakens would also.

These are films for children, first and about imagination, not calculated adult expectations....

I would give it an solid "A", not as good as The Empire Strikes Back, but definitely as good as A New Hope.

I'm not sure why that is, but it's an old trend. We moved from Colorado and there wasn't any reserved theaters close to us. Had no idea that was even available anywhere. The company that owns the theater close to us bought out an older theater and completely revamped it for the full service theater experience. An Alamo Drafthouse just opened in an area within driving range too.

I think more theaters need to offer at least half of their auditoriums as reserved seating per location. See if its viable in their market.

I've had the film spoiled for me a few times over thanks to random comments on the Internet. I'm still looking forward to seeing it next week though.
