That's awesome! Too bad there's no footage of it. Curse the "No Cameras" rule! *Shakes Fist*

According to geektyrant.com, George Lucas commented on Spielberg directing Star Wars:

"He's probably the most brilliant director working in the business today. I’m pretty sure he’d never want to do that!"

I didn't see a source on the article, but if he really did say that, I think it's pretty offensive to the franchise. But the quote could easily be out of context too.

He must be, because he wouldn't disrespect his own franchise (or the one he created anyway).

He is right though, Spielberg is probably the most brilliant director.

Easily: Think he was (ahem) referring to the famous-director discussions , by pointing out, why would the most "brilliant" director want to do somebody ELSE'S film?
Has anyone ever thought of the Indy films as Lucas films? If not, well, there ya go.

(Except, of course, for Spielberg working with Peter Jackson, but that was more a collaboration of existing ideas.)

Any film that Spielberg does automatically becomes Spielberg's film, simply because of his fame. I can understand why he wouldn't want to take Lucas' project on and "make it his own" in the eyes of the public, which, I think, is what Lucas means by that quote.

Even the TV show Band of Brothers became "Spielberg's" - no one ever really knows that Tom Hanks executive produced it, as well (unless they're a huge fan of the show and have researched or, alternatively, looked at the front of their copy of it )

Good point about the Indy films, too - Lucas wrote and produced them yet they're pretty much ALL Spielberg's...

With the rapid pace that we were receiving news in regards to episode 7, I'm a bit surprised we haven't heard about a director yet.

Just saw this in a "Mayan Apocalypse" article about Lucas shooting Yavin 4 exteriors at a Mayan temple in Guatemala - don't really believe this part of it, but I thought you would find it interesting...

Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode VII, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi Knight academy. However, fans said that Disney will likely film those scenes in a studio rather than return to Tikal.

Sounds like they're basing their "Info" on the EU stories. Where Luke did use Yavin 4 for the headquarters of the New Jedi Order.
Quote:
In 11 ABY, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker chose Yavin 4 as the site for the Jedi Praxeum and the headquarters of his New Jedi Order after receiving permission from the New Republic. During his travels, he had discovered a number of Force-sensitives and finally felt ready to begin to train new Jedi. This first class consisted of twelve pupils with Luke as their teacher. Some of those twelve were Kam and Tionne Solusar, Kirana Ti, Madurrin, Kyle Katarn, Dorsk 81, Brakiss, Corran Horn, Streen, and Gantoris. Other Jedi to join soon after were Kyp Durron, Cilghal, Mara Jade, and Dal Konur.

exactly. which is why I dont believe it. The EU are fun stories to read, but are NOT being used as the basis for new films - they are not considered canon.

He should have directed Episode II, then. And at the end, Kevin Costner can give a 20 minute speech explaining the plot.

He knocked back ROTJ back in 1983, I don't see him changing his mind.

At least J.J. was humble enough to turn it down.

I'm glad he didn't take it. Have always found JJ to be overrated.
