Pretty fun little video of Ewan McGregor talking about being Obi-Wan in voice only for TFA.

So It looks like TFA will settle in at #3 worldwide just behind Titanic and $700 million behind Avatar. I thought it would beat both to become #1. Makes those two films box office accomplishments all the more impressive.

The "I am your father" reveal was a twist we didn't see coming in TESB. I think JJ and Kasdan will probably have a similar twist that we don't see coming, since they have already mapped out this new trilogy.

Already posted this. It's a clear and cheap trick That's been done 40 years earlier in the franchise.

Except if VII sets the pattern, they want lots in the new trilogy to remind people of original famous scenes and dialog. And people have already documented how much VII parallels the original story.

Even though VII turned out to be a pretty good movie, I think this is unfortunate. I would much rather see the story go in new directions that don't parallel the old stories. If Luke is going to train Rey to confront Kylo Ren and she somehow (by the 3rd film) turns him
[Show spoiler](even though he can never recover from killing his father) so he kills Snoke
, it's really going to be one great big bore. And if Finn turns out to be the lost son of
[Show spoiler]Lando
, that's also going to be terrible - like a bad soap opera. And I suppose that Poe Dameron
[Show spoiler]is going to turn out to be someone's relative as well
, but that will really turn the series into a joke, if so.

But if they take it in completely new directions, it could really be very special. There's always going to be space battles and the confrontation between supposedly good Jedi and supposedly bad Sith/Empire/First Order people, but the specifics need to be totally original.

If it were up to me (and of course it's not), I'd like the next movie to open with Luke looking at the lightsaber, understanding why Rey is there and giving a look of "screw it - I'm not going through this again" and jumping off the cliff, leaving Rey to solve it herself. Rey (and maybe Finn,
[Show spoiler]although since we last left him in that medical cabinet and unconscious, I think he's going to give birth to twins
) investigate the past (maybe they find the Jedi temple and records of the past) and discover that the Jedi screwed up big time in almost everything they did. And as a result, while she still uses The Force, she creates something entirely new.

In all seriousness though, they need to do a good job to explain why
[Show spoiler]Ren turned to the dark side.
It can't just be that he's another spoiled brat who didn't like Luke telling him what to do.
[Show spoiler]How did he even find out about his grandfather? Does it make sense that Leia/Luke would have even told their offspring that Vader was their grandfather?

And if Rey turns out to be
[Show spoiler]Luke's daughter, then they have to provide a good explanation as to why she was left as a kid on that planet. Why wouldn't she have been left with Leia?

Etc.

And do we still really need spoilers? Is there anyone who would come to this thread, hasn't yet seen the movie AND wouldn't click on the spoiler anyway? I doubt it.

It doesn't make Force Awaken's accomplishment any less. It doesn't have to beat them financially. It's still an awesome movie and has handily outclassed them both in North America where the biggest percentage of the fanbase resides. Both of those films are great as well for their respective reasons because Cameron gave audiences two films unlike any they had ever seen before.

I wasn't belittling TFA's accomplishment by any means. I loved it and was hoping it would beat them both. And while it has beaten Avatar in domestic adjusted dollars, it's still almost $300 million behind Titanic.

By the way I just read that there is a tentative release date of April 5 for the 2D blu Ray. I'm waiting for the 3D version.

I also got an email from Amazon saying my pre-order of TFA on Blu would be out 4/5/2016. Then I got an email later that day saying it was "unknown" again.

Leaked release date? Perhaps Disney yelled at them? The listing isn't searchable anymore for some reason.

Sure.

[Show spoiler]It's not unreasonable the Skywalker kids would take an 'we're not going to lie about this kind of stuff' approach after being lied to (or being shielded, if you want to put it charitably) themselves. Even if that's not the most prudent course it would be understandable.

And it would also be understandable for them to have used Vader as a teaching point/cautionary tale.

Snoke could have told him. Ben could have told him. Yoda could have told him. Hell, Anakin could have even told him himself, I suppose.

As far as 'filling in the gaps' goes that one doesn't really bother me too much.

Haven't heard anything. It's the 4th Star Wars movie converted to 3D, have to assume we'll see them eventually.

Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith both had completed conversions that premiered at Celebration. I saw Sith at the Anaheim Celebration last year, and it looked gorgeous.

Most sites are eager to grab the 2D pre order sales, so they're using the poster art as a place holder, and are waiting for official word from Lucasfilm/Disney. I'm waiting for the 3D blu ray announcement, as that's the way I want to see this movie again at home, with medium to strong 3D layers throughout and some nice pop out shots to bring the movie into another dimension; great conversion by Stereo D, who are also working on the next two Star Wars 3D conversions.
As Pacific Rim 3D, Titanic 3D and Jurassic Park 3D prove, conversions can be just as effective as filmed 3D in most aspects.

There are rumors the 3D blu ray of Star Wars VII is planned, but no official word yet.
