I just don't agree that there's a need to have Obi-Wan or the Emperor in the movie at all. We've already confirmed Luke, Han and Leia are returning.

I was hoping for a fresh storyline like Knights of the Republic and less of an homage to the old movies (which the prequels tried to do a la Boba Fett).

Just my two cents.

If Obi-Wan was to return then they could only use Ewan McGreggor because Alec Guiness is dead, so they'd have no choice but to replace Guiness.

It really doesn't matter if any of us or even if Disney wants Obi Wan in the movie if Ewan McGregor doesn't want to do it. And I kind of get the feeling he is done with Star Wars with some things he has said in the past.

He's aware of how the prequels turned out but he's been publicly enthusiastic about the new films and returning as Obi Wan.

Unless he's taking the fans for a ride.

I was hoping with Disney and JJ taking over that we could forget the mistakes of the past and move on with some different direction, a fresh new start, with this IP.

Instead we're tying ourselves to the old movies and possibly repeating old mistakes (e.g., replacing the original old actors with the prequel ones).
I don't mind the idea of mixing actors from the various movies if it makes sense but I have to admit, I am not really excited about this movie. I think the choise of director is bad and as more news comes out, I am seeing things I don't like - movies coming out every year or every second year until they no longer make money is a huge thing for me. look at what the last movies did with Star Wars? I think that we are going to get that feeling again and instead of having 3 really good movies, we are going to end up with 9+ movies that water down those 3 good movies. only good part is that if JJ is busy doing this, he will have to step away from Trek and we might get a decent series back on tv instead of his crappy movies.

There was a time, a LONG time when pretty much noone thought it was possible to replace Alec. Well they did it, and it turned out ok, with Ewan being one of the only decent things about those 3 movies, and the same can be done now. Pretty darn sure they can replace Ewan.

In fact I wish they would. I like him, he did fine, but just seeing him in these new movies will immediately remind me of the prequels, and id really like to forget them. I dont want a single actor from the prequels in the new ones. Start FRESH. Why hang on to some **** from the past?

One could say the same about hanging on too hard to the OT, I want a completely new story that doesn't depend on what's been done before but we won't get that so my expectations for this SW film are somewhere around 0%.

It's not really been delayed though - all we were was told was 2015 and, even if the December date turns out to be true, that still holds true. Considering Disney had Avengers 2 (May), Inside Out (June) and Pirates 5 (August) set before Episode VII was announced it's likely that summer was always out as an option.

It's likely that they were just waiting to see what Avatar 2 was doing as that was pencilled in for a December 2015 release but now, of course, has been confirmed for 2016. Though an Avatar vs. Star Wars box office battle would have been interesting.

Several sources are saying that the new films will be shot on 35mm rather than digital..seems like good news to me.

Frankly, I'm shocked! Well, I guess it shows George really isn't calling all the shots anymore. Good news to me

Dan Mindell as DOP and shooting on 35mm! I just read that Mindell is the one who introduced Abrams to lens flares and its because of him they show up so much. Let the lens flare *****ing commence.

Not to encourage the reemergence of the subject or anything , but I really find it funny because I never really noticed or cared about the "lens flare" before people started going on and on about it. Now I love it because it seems to get people so riled up.

Anyway, fantastic news about shooting in 35mm! Count me surprised and overjoyed.

The news for Episode 7 just keeps getting better and better! I'm glad they are filming on stock film rather than digital. I don't really bash Lucas for using digital cameras on Episodes 2 and 3 because he was one of the leading men in movie technology and he loved to tinker with it. But I'm gaining more and more confidence in Lucasfilm and J.J. Abrams in making Episode 7 and how, in a word, "simplistic" the film making will be, just like the OT!

I thought Digital was the future of film making. I could care less how it's filmed. Time will tell if this is a step in the right direction.

Can i be a noob and ask why are we raving about 35mm?
What's the difference? :P
Is it because this will make the new films look more like the original trilogy since the prequels were shot in digital?
If so then i can understand and this is good news!
