Since they're going for a new director, the only thing I have to day is this:

I think that Kevin Smith would be a disaster. I can't say, aside from the first Clerks, that I've enjoyed any of his movies. Not the biggest fan of toilet humor and bestiality.

Great news. George Lucas always hinted that Star Wars was to be a 9-Part story. Now with the financial clout of the Disney studios Mr Lucas will be able to complete his opus.

If even half the people who have been begging for them to release the original versions on Blu get their wish and make buy them again, Disney has the potential of recouping at least a third of what they paid for Lucasfilm. And if they do them as fully-loaded special editions they'll make even more money. Hell, I'm not even a big Star Wars fan but will happily double dip if it happens.

The only thing that concerns me regarding Disney's purchase is their fascination for cross-promotion rearing it's ugly (and shameful) head. If I see Jack Sparrow prancing around with a lightsaber going after Jar Jar Binks I'm tuning out permanently.

No. In Red he's Takeel.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Takeel - Appeared in A New Hope. Basis for the original Kenner figure.

The species all gets the nickname of "Snaggletooth". Outside of Greedo, none of the Cantina Aliens got real names back then.

You think a UOT release would make a billion+ dollars?

No offense but that was insane the first time you posted and it's just as insane now. And I say that as a consistent proponent of a UOT release.

****ing WOW!
Based on the quality of the other Disney restorations, I am very optimistic. My greatest hope is that when they announce the release of the originals, Lucas storms into the boardroom and yells "You said you'd only release the special editions from now on," and Iger says "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."

As mentioned earlier in the thread, this would be a terrible idea. He can't even make a good Comic Book movie. I fear what he could do with a Fantasy Space Opera. There probably wouldn't even be aliens in it, due to Nolan's obsession with realism. Heh.

Yeah, it would definitely make quite a bit of money but nowhere near that. Heck even if it sold at actual msrp they would not make that kind of money.

Even then most had the fear he would put it in his will that his children would not be allowed to release them.
I'm not sure, but I think Beast may be referring to something I posted in the Star Wars BD thread. In an interview with the NYT from August, 2010, Lucas said the following:

Quote:
Mr. Lucas said that to release the original versions of these films on Blu-ray was “kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good.”

“You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally,” he added. “It’s a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version.”
Quote:
“We’ve been working on them(2011 Saga BD's) for quite a while,” Mr. Lucas said, “but still, there are pipelines. Unfortunately, the recent releases get priority over what we call the classic versions of things.”

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ray-next-year/

It's hardly definitive or a confirmation of the UOT coming to BD anytime soon, but I've always held those quotes as a glimmer of hope and possibility that he was no longer against releasing them and that it would happen eventually. It definitely proves that the old quotes of Lucas saying they no longer existed were just figurative and not literal in nature, as most fans already suspected.

Other than the above interview, I've never come across anything else in recent years where Lucas says anything other than "no" when asked about the UOT. So, who knows?

The Clone Wars guy will direct them probably...
