Nothing says the hand is 30 years old.

Eh, maybe it's someone else's severed hand holding Luke's lightsaber. Either way it's not good.

I seriously doubt the hand is anywhere near this (there's no way they open the movie with a hand tumbling through space... just no way).

The idea of the kids discovering Luke's old saber as a catalyst to start the search is fine by me, but it all depends on how it is depicted.

If the hand isn't Luke's that would be even dumber.

I doubt any of it is true, the author of the article is probably sitting behind a computer having a good laugh.

Maybe Disney hired Kevin Smith to do a fake storyline like he did Batman v Superman.

Oh yes! I love it! A severed human hands falls out of Bespin's atmosphere, tumbling opposite its center of gravity, escapes the planet's orbit, travels light years through the galaxy, escapes Tatooine's orbit, enters the atmosphere, falls a few miles before colliding with the desert, and lands in front of some folks on one of the least populated planets in the galaxy. It's the only logical step to take from Return of the Jedi.

I have an idea too: The movie begins with the ending of Return of the Jedi. The Death Star is destroyed, and pieces fly in every direction. One of those pieces is a trash compactor, who's walls remained miraculously intact after the explosion. The compactor drifts through space for thirty odd years before landing on our favorite desert planet. The walls crack, and the weird cyclops creature emerges and find shelter from the sun on a nearby moisture farm that looks like it was burned and abandoned a long time ago. The creature grows strong drinking old blue milk, learns how to fly an old T-16 sitting in the garage, and takes off to the skies to seek revenge on the rebels who destroyed its home and rain havoc down upon the galaxy.

the whole floating hand in space holding a lightsaber thing sounds 100% like a typical bad George Lucas idea.

Only it doesn't. It sounds like a Abrams idea to be honest, but it's fake anyway, so what does it matter?

Sounds rubbish. The person who made this up just saw the wine bottle in one of the Star Trek films, replace with a lightsaber and connected it to the Han searching for Luke plot. This doesn't sound like Lucas at all, he's directing not as great anymore, he wrote bad dialogues, but he's very good in setting up the stories.

PS: The fridge scene in Skull, which I like, was Steven Spielberg's idea. There were many crazy ideas too in Raiders from him but were toned down by Lucas. Go read the making of books.

It does sound fake. With that said, I've read through the negative comments about the hand over the last few pages and I can already see that people have pre-conceived notions about how the movie should open up. Basically setting themselves up for disappointment . It'll be the prequels all over again.

High five!

The fridge scene was brilliant - pure "Indiana Jones" right there!

Don't believe that "rumor" about the plot. Movie studios always leak details of fake plots for high profile films and this is no different. Until it's officially released by Lucasfilm, Disney or Bad Robot, I'd simply consider the news as 'rumor'. Slashfilm, according to the information, is simply reporting details of the plot as unofficial rumor.

Maybe the hand lands on Tattooine, goes down the Great Pit of Carkoon, and causes the Sarlacc to choke. This action finally frees Boba Fett from the Sarlacc pit and allows him to fly off with his jet pack.

If it is, I'll start lining up at the theater tonight. It'll be a long wait but it'll be so worth it.

That's my second favorite comment so far. Not quite as good as Jar Jar's head but I love the end result bringing Boba Fett's return.
