I'd buy the UOT without a moments hesitation but I don't know if I'd watch them instead of the new editions. Would have to see. I personally like 90% of the updates that Lucas has done but the ones I don't like I really don't like. As someone who grew up with the special editions I've only seen the UOT once with that awful non-anamorphic dvd so the choice between that and the blu ray is easy for me. I'd love to have the UOT as a film fan and a Star Wars fan. When you see so many other movies released with the original and the remastered it makes you wonder why this can't happen with Star Wars, though I understand Lucas' POV. My perfect cut of Star Wars would probably sit neatly between the UOT and the 2011 releases. And would have consistent lightsabers.

If anyone is interested in letting Disney know how much they would like to see the UOT released here's a link:
http://thewaltdisneycompany.com/cont...communications I just sent them a short and polite letter. Can't hurt to try ![]() |

Whilst I think there are many directors who could do something great with Star Wars I agree with others that Spielberg is the only person I can imagine being able to recreate that Star Wars vibe. He may not know the universe as well as some of the directors who grew up playing with Star Wars toys but he can capture the spirit of adventure, wonderment and humour whilst creating some fun action sequences.
We've seen him deliver these things in films like Indy, Jurassic Park and most recently in Tintin which felt like a really old school Spielberg adventure despite it exploiting modern filming techniques. A lot of directors could do something great but how many could do something fun (whilst not being goofy)? |

Gawd NO! He'll make it into some obnoxious, tongue-in-cheek bloodbath that wil end up some as a revenge-porn extravaganza or whatever. No, no, no.
Actually, a lot of the directors mentioned here are bad fits. Joss Whedon is a no go. And, whats so special about his dialog? Gore Verbinski? The first Pirates film did catch lightning in a bottle of sorts but they got progressively worse as they went along. I didnt see anything from him that stood out. Ironically, the original Star Wars films were directed by relative unknowns and that does have some advantages. With a veteran director, they will somehow try to inject their style into it and that may not be good. I joked about this very thing on another thread when Ternece Malicks name came up: It was like "Great, then we can have a 4 hour Star Wars movie where nothing happens for the entire film except some looooong shots of ships cruising around." YUK! Seriously though - other than Speilberg, I wouldnt trust anyone else at this point. What about Ridley? I know hes busy but I do like his style for the most part. Cameron is tied up with Avatar but I like him over the others on this list. Dont forget that Lucas did attempt to hire David Lynch for ROTJ but David turned it down due to the story already being so far along. Id almost say to give him a chance. He can direct all kinds of movies and has before. |

Spielbergs too friendly with Lucas, i think anyone with a brain would agree if any more movies are to be made Lucas should be locked far away in a padded cell with no involvement at all. If Spielberg was chosen no doubt Lucas would also get in there somehow. How about David Fincher?

I think he said he didn't want to work with the people behind Alien 3 again, not Sci-Fi as a whole. David worked with ILM before and worked on Return Of The Jedi, so he has background in the workings of the good Star Wars already.
