Dude, it wasn't Iger's decision to keep Song of the South out of the public for decades, it was somebody else in the company decades before Bob Iger obtained control. Because of racial reasons. Disney is afraid of pissing off specific groups of people. So, you're placing hatred over that situation onto the wrong person.

Quite a few I'd like to see give it a go.

The guys who made ID4 simply for the modeling and spaceship effects. I don't want CGI ships.

Tarsem Singh, could really bring in a nice visual style for the alien races and costumes (I know he has somebody he usually uses for them).

Guillermo Del Toro. Hellboy II for example gives an idea of what a modern Cantina scene could be like. In general just a visual expert.

Ridley Scott without the crappy writer's used in Prometheus. The visual style he is capable of creating is simply stunning.

Peter Jackson could do quite a job as well of course.

Michael Bay for the flashback of the Death Star exploding.

I think it's safe to say that if you look at who historically has directed Disney movies, that's who's going to direct this film, bank on it!

Gore Verbinski
Joseph Kosinski
Andrew Stanton
Brad Bird
Kevin Lima
Andrew Adamson...etc

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dave Filoni, the guys who is directing the Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network! They do amazing story telling on that show and he loves the fans! He would give us what we wanted!

It's been mentioned in the other thread. Yes I believe you GOTTA take a hard look at him. However I would think he's a bit of a risk, seeing as how he's never directed a big budget film before. Not saying he wouldn't do a great job but I think when you're talking about the $$$ potential for something like this, they're going to want a "home run" kind of guy.

If not Brad Bird....I'd go for Matthew Vaughn....if not... I'd go way out of left field and put Darren Aronofsky in there. yeah, yeah....I know that he'll never even get looked at for the chair...

correct, but he's the one who's enforcing it right now. thus he's the target. if someone after him refuses he's next on the hit list

I think Duncan Jones would be tremendous. Plus there is always a possibility of a cameo by DB.

Brad Bird would be my pick.

My only strike against Matthew Vaughn is that he'd get replaced by Bryan Singer at the last minute and then we're just a heartbeat away from Brett Ratner. No, no, that simply won't do.

that doesn't stop them from releasing crap ton of fairly offensive movies to other religious groups etc. believe me they get a LOT of crap from certain groups already, they're just worried about the "race card" on this title for some bizarre reason. and seriously. if someone gets up in arms about it... there's a decent amount of 4 letter words that disney can tell them to do to themselves

If so we already know the ending to this trilogy.

I just hope fans can be entertained, but I am sure those same fanatics that found reasons to hate the new movies will be able to find the reasons to hate the 'Disney' Star Wars movies.
There are certain "fans" that will always bit$h and curse, so they won't ever make everybody happy, especially not with Star Wars.

It's SPIELBERG. Is there a rule or sth. online that you have to misspell his name, because it seems like 99% of the people do it?

But, yeah, Steven would be a great choice, or Joe Johnston.

Or Luke ignoring the lesson of his Father's fall to the Dark Side by becoming the Clone Emperor's apprentice. And it basically playing out like a rehash of RotJ with Leia in Luke's role looking to redeem her brother. And then you have real crap like Chewbacca dying by being hit by a moon. And don't get me started on crappy Boba Fett.
Eek. That sounds REALLY terrible. I am glad it's original material.

Same here.

I want them to be released so that everybody is happy, but I hate these rude fanatics who get nasty about George Lucas because of it.
They are only movies. No reason to be mean, and hostile.
I have read so many comments in these threads, where I thought it couldn't get any worse, but then someone even topped that.
That's the spirit that almost makes me wish they'll never get what they want, because they are such a nasty, ungrateful bunch.
Not directed at you, but there are many seriously deranged folks out there.

I hope not, on both accounts.

Now that all the hype has subsided from all that, & after close examination I can say beyond a doubt I STILL LOVE SW in all it's forms, warts and all. These movies were never exactly high art. They were designed & executed to be escapist adventures & above all else fun. Guess what mission accomplished . . . they are FUN. They are a FREAKING BLAST!!! I am greatful to GL for giving me decades of mind blowing entertainment on a level I've NEVER experienced since.
In the fututre after I own the UOT on blu-ray & I'm in the mood for a simple adventure story of a farm boy from Tantooie who with the help of a few friends saves the galaxy, the UOT will be what I watch. When I'm in the mood for a grand sweeping SciFi fantasy style epic about about innocence, corruption, & redemption I will watch I - VI as GL meant it to be seen.
Now don't get me wrong there are things GL should not have done. But there are just as many things he did that I am glad he fixed. Bottom line is that the man gave all of us an incredibly entertaining fantasy world to dream of. STAR WARS is now & 4EVER will be the quintessential fantasy adventure of all time. I really believe GL has just ensured that by handing it over to the mouse!
Yes, but they are much more meaningful than people give them credit for.

George Lucas is one of the greatest men around. He is giving away most of the money he just made:

Gotta love this man! Hats off to you, George.

Michael Bay!!!!!!!!

Ok seriously, Brad Bird. No to Spielberg -- he seems to have lost his edge after Saving Private Ryan.

He's done some solid work since then, but I don't think he's had one of his signature masterpieces since 1998.

Joss Whedon would be my pick I think. I think his film style fits Lucas' very Vanilla kind of look (throw rocks at me later, but niether is a visually exciting director). Plus we all know he has a good relationship with Disney and can handle the pressure of big movies.

I know (many years ago) Lucas had mentioned someone like Tarantino as being his choice, and Whedon is kind of the Geek Tarantino. Even though you could make the argument for Jon Favreau, but his relationship with Marvel might strain any hope for that.

All I can say is that I hope they keep Kevin Smith '...far far away' from the Star Wars director's chair.

I haven't been a fan of Lucas' work over the past two decades, but I think haters and worshipers alike can all agree that him contributing that much money to philanthropic programs is amazing.

If nothing else, George Lucas is an incredibly generous and inspiring figure.

Jon Favreau does have a returning role in Star Wars The Clone Wars (that of Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla), so who knows..

Perhaps the Walt Disney Company considers black people to be more fearsome than other groups.
