I disagree. But I'm not surprised at your comment.

I really like most of the changes, as it adds continuity to the 6 movies. I do get some complaints, but this scene is much better, plus has the actual actor who plays the Emperor.

And they look great, aside from the CG characters. I suspect we'll get far fewer (any?) full CG characters in TFA. The real Stormtroopers vs. CG Clonetroopers alone is a big difference.

I think it'll be a riproaring action film but it won't be all sweetness and light. If there's one thing I particularly like about JJ's films it's that he's adept at balancing drama and action and humour, he makes popcorn entertainments that also have a heart unlike, say, the soulless pyrotechnics of the Transformers flicks. To that end, I think Ep VII will naturally include darker elements; no, it won't have "evil Luke" and they'd be crazy to kill Han this early in the comeback, but the genie's out of the bottle in terms of audience expectations because if it's too light and fluffy people will say they've gone too far. If they concentrate too much on making it an anti-prequel then they'll lose sight of that darker edge which runs throughout the OT and counterbalances the Saturday-morning matinee froth.

Even the original film (easily the most "fun" of the OT) had roasted corpses, limbs getting lopped off and an absolutely catastrophic death toll in terms of all the poor bastards who got smoked on Alderaan and the Death Star, and as a big fan JJ will be aware of that. Heck, he's already done his own Alderaan homage with the destruction of Vulcan in the Trek reboot and I've long regarded those two Trek films as JJ's Star Wars demo reels anyway. If he delivers a film with the pathos and the smarts and the excitement of Trek '09 then it could be an immediate contender for best Star Wars movie EVAR.

You do know that Andy Serkis and his crew have been hard at work in his London mocap studio doing performance capture for the movie, right?

I saw the IMAX 70mm version of "Interstellar" yesterday and the Star Wars VII teaser played before the film. It didn't get any reaction at all from the audience. Maybe because everyone had already seen it online, but if that wasn't the case, this could be worrying. I expected people to applaud.

I personally liked the trailer when I first saw it online.

Perhaps everyone in the theatre already had their childhood ruined?

Because I can guarantee this will be me when I see Episode VII:

Are you sure you saw the 70mm version? Because there are NO trailers in front of the 70mm version down here in San Antonio. The lights dim and the movie just starts.

I'm not even going to bother owning anything Star Wars on Blu-ray. I'm done with it and will see The Force Awakens once in cinemas.

Don't get your hopes up. It's Disney. First, they won't include the 3d Blu. Then, they won't include the DVD. No steelbook. No special cases. Next, bonus features will be trimmed down...

I assume most people use the internet in some capacity. I couldn't go anywhere on the internet the weekend it came out that didn't have at least a mention of the trailer. My parents don't even use the internet if rarely and they saw the trailer that weekend. You are living under a rock if you haven't seen it by now. So I'm sure every person in that theater had already seen it. Besides, Interstellar been out for a while now, so I can't imagine there was that many people in your theater.

Dang. I guess that's the power of 70mm. I went to a night time showing in digital IMAX 2 weeks ago and there was probably only 10 other people in the theater.

Woah...

But how or why did you reach that decision in 2007? Can't think of anything around that time that would cause such a reaction. Was it something you were "stewing" over or thinking about? Am curious. Did you own a lot of stuff? All I own is a wearable stormtrooper helmet in a plastic display case and the 6 films on blu-ray.

btw Kinda sad that you felt that way. Surprised you want to see TFA at all to be honest.

Felt there was too much going on with the merchandising and decided enough was enough then sold practically everything Star Wars I owned around 2007-2009 except the bits I mentioned. They were collecting dust anyway and I don't mind seeing TFA though. When the Blu-rays were announced for Episode I-VI I wanted Indiana Jones on Blu-ray more.
The kid in me wants to see it since I have been wanting to see the live-action Sequel Trilogy ever since I read about it in Starlog in the 1980's. Also told myself to fulfill the childhood promise to myself to watch the Sequel Trilogy in cinemas no matter what my level of interest in the series were at the time.
I sold over 50 issues of Star Wars Insider too. Don't know much about the plot except what I've seen in the teaser, will watch the eventual full trailer and not researching anymore about Episode VII.

Reagrds to LucasFilm Ltd. on Blu-ray disc, I'd much rather buy TUCKER: The Man and His Dream over the OUT any day, that's my stance on the series at the moment. Not vehement but more I'd rather collect other movies on Blu-ray.

But it's still nice to have the Sequel Trilogy for Star Wars finally being made after first hearing/reading about it decades ago.
