Honestly, probably not much. The movie won't feel half assed when it comes out. LucasFilm is pouring everything they have into making the best movie they can. It has to be or this whole thing was for naught. Abrams honestly turned to Kasdan to help him make sure his script was solid, that was his fear. Arndt's draft just wasn't working, and Abrams wanted a working draft for the best movie possible. Outside of that, honestly, it'll be the best possible movie we could hope for it to be. LucasFilm has to make it that way, they won't relive he prequels again.

I wouldn't mind if they took the extra time. I want them to have the time to do everything they want and need to do. Give it the best chance to be the best possible film. That's definitely worth the wait. Even though most of us are excited for this, I'm sure most of us would also be willing to wait longer for a better product.
I always thought the projected time sounded short when they announced it. When they first said summer 2015 I thought, no way. If they do that it'll be rushed and it'll show.

Love this article....and I have a big fear that this is going to be a monumental letdown for the ones that simply love the original unaltered trilogy.

Oh and gotta love the " exercising preemptive measures to control Prequel Trilogy-like outrage?"

See it's not just this board

If they're putting that much time and effort into it, maybe they finished it early? Once you have something fixed and done, the more time you take to 'get it right' because you have the time to fiddle with it the greater the odds of undoing what works.

I could see JJ wanting to release this early if its completely finished. The longer it sits around the more opportunity for leaks. He's probably having a hard time controlling the leaks.

Does anyone know if John Williams has recorded the score for this yet?

If the new characters are interesting, compentently written, and directed well most people won't care how much the old characters show up. The problem with the prequels is that the characters were not interesting, poorly written, and poorly directed.

I agree. The other thing is that there is no current huge "Christmas" action movie, previously the LotR/Hobbit movies had that slot. If Star Wars takes it over and puts out one movie every december for the next 6 years, they'll own it (the slot) in perpetuity.

They will have large parts even if thier screen time is limited. JJ is too much of a Star Wars mark not to make them important parts of the story. And yep, this film is going to be a momumental letdown. Good thing JJ won that award to keep him warm when this happens. By the way, what film did he release in 2014 to win it?

What J.J needs to do is take all the footage and finished product and keep it secure whether it be hidden in his house or bury it till (Dec 17th) this way no one can leak anymore stuff...

But Ideally if he were to get his wish i would see it being released in Sept..cause isn't that when the toy line starts debuting??

Even if it was completely finished, Disney won't move it up. They have their release schedule as tight as it possibly can be right now. So much so that they'll pretty much dominate the summer, all the way through the winter. Once we get to May, it'll be Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, and Lucasfilm throughout the year. It's probably going to end up being one of the biggest years revenue wise for the company in a while with the films they have waiting on the outskirts. So even if they were finished, even if I seriously doubt they are, they're not going to move the movie out of the prime December release slot. Everyone already cleared out of the dates around, just to avoid being pummeled by it.

Exactly. Part of it is how many eyes you can get on a film from December through January, because if the movies are good, they're going to have great legs. The other thing is it almost feels like a move to shake Fox's confidence in the Avatar films. It's almost like Disney and Lucasfilm are daring them to open against Episode VIII. There's so many reason the slot was chosen, there's just no way they'll move off of it now. I'd be absolutely shocked if it did.

That's assuming the leaks are coming from people who have seen the footage. It's not just that. People have read the scripts. There have been extras on set. Theres hundreds of prop makers, effects people, and costumers. Theres the factories cranking out action figures and playlets. Writers making adaptations and children's novels.

You can't stop the leaks. You can only hope they won't leak to much.

One thing is for certain once another trailer gets issued and we get a glimpse of prime Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, and our favorite pair of droids the net is going to go buck wild!

I'm not crazy about the December release date either. I would love to go in the middle of the summer. Even fall would be okay.

I'll almost certainly still go though. I haven't seen the inside of a theater in years but snow or not this will break that streak.

For me, the holidays and winter generally increase my chances of going to see a movie in the theater. If summer blockbusters were all winter blockbusters, I wouldn't change my viewing habits on bit.
