No, but why shouldn't we discuss it here?

This threads all over the place with the lack of official information. But it is fun to read.

A few years back, in a comic, the Enterprise went into a wormhole or something and wound up in a future of DC superheroes! Star Trek, DC... Disney, Star Wars, Marvel...

Yep. I can hardly talk superheroes with the kids any more before they lose me with Ben 10 crap. I don't know who anyone is, and I'm having a hard time getting into the show.

Must be getting old...

For choice of director, I'd go with Jon Favreau.

Nah, that's just an incredibly hard show to enjoy, I've found. Although maybe I'm getting old, too...

Would be an interesting mix, that's for sure. Could Favreau do Star Wars the justice it deserves, though? Not sure on that one.

It in the constitution of the internet, if there is a discussion about Star Wars, nerds are obligated to bring up Star Trek, otherwise they revoke your license and you can't get into the conventions, or so I am told.

Roger Ebert Quote from 2005: Note: I said this is not necessarily the last of the "Star Wars" movies. Although Lucas has absolutely said he is finished with the series, it is inconceivable to me that 20th Century-Fox will willingly abandon the franchise, especially as Lucas has hinted that parts VII, VIII and IX exist at least in his mind. There will be enormous pressure for them to be made, if not by him, then by his deputies.

Cool, eh? Well, he knew the power of the force is not to be underestimated.

Or, the money that these movies make cannot be ignored. Lol

Well I remember in the late 80s or early 90s there talk was the series will be 9 movies. Suddenly when George started making the prequels he said the series was only going to be 6 movies. Most people don't remember that because they have 10 second memories.

Starwars.com used to actually have 7,8,9 listed back in the 90's on the website at the top not sure if its there or not anymore

There was rumour, but Lucas had never officially stated that it was going to be 9 movies - because of how big the fanbase for the series is, rumours circulate often, and it's hard to tell which rumours are based on partial fact or which are based on complete lies. There are numerous interviews with stars from the original trilogy posted on here that claim Lucas had spoken to them about reprising their roles in a future instalment - Hamell claims that he was told it would be about 2011 - so maybe Lucas did have a grander scheme planned out, but with the farce he made of the prequels, it's hard to believe this man had everything planned out from the get-go.

Wrong.I remember interviews and reports from the eighties where George stated that 9 movies were planned.

Yeah, true - so much crap comes from his mouth that it's hard to decide what is real and what is not. He constantly moves the goalposts on his own ideas for no apparant reason, which is odd for someone who is (well, was) in the business of marketing as much as possible.

Ah, fair enough - I apologise then. I always thought it was rumoured (even by him) but never official. Would be interesting to see what he said about them back then, because I'm not convinced he even knew which direction he wanted to go in with the series (after all, the prequels were such a mess he couldn't have possibly planned it all out: either he was a liar and hadn't planned anything, or he was an absolutely TERRIBLE writer )

Originally, his idea was going to be "The Hidden Fortress" of the entire wars, with the focus on the two robots as Tahei and Matashichi, and that there was another pockets-of-resistance trilogy to get through after the Emperor. (Thus the reason there were no victory celebrations in the original theatrical version of ROTJ.)
After he decided getting through ROTJ was too much work, he moved the goalposts to say "Oh, well, it was always Anakin's story, and the Emperor's dead, so the war's over", so that fans wouldn't pester him about unmade films.

If we do got Luke and Leia as the "parents" of a new Jedi resurgence, then either there WERE nine films in blueprints, or I've just made up a film that hasn't been written yet.

Did anyone watch the video on that link? What was up with Tarantino's strange name-dropping of Simon West? I don't understand what he was getting at, and I'm very happy that he isn't going near this.

It isn't just rumors from media reports, I have a VHS tape about the making of Return of the Jedi, from about 1983 or so when the movie was still fairly new, and he very specifically says it was a nine part saga, he also says it again on the VHS copies of the movies released going INTO the Special Editions, I also have those copies as well. He says he made the middle three and that he would do the next three latter and after that he would maybe consider doing the final three if there was still interest. This isn't something fan made up from vague interviews this is something he put out there on his own official releases time and again.

There was never any doubt that Lucas had nine movies in his head at one point, there are way too many independent confirmations from different sources for it to be untrue. Lucas changed his mind somewhere around the time of the Prequels and made up some nonsense that he had never even contemplated three followup movies to the original trilogy.

I guess he thought people would clamor for them and ask them why he was doing the Prequels, when most fans wanted the sequels.

Just a quick reminder to those inclined to throw out the n-word in these threads: this particular lunchroom does not have a cool table. I'm really sorry but it just doesn't.

Carry on.
