To take this comment a little seriously: She was part of the royal family of a long since destroyed world. And ultimately an secret adopted part at that. It is not surprising that as she grew older in the intervening years that she may drop that moniker and adopt whatever formal rank the alliance (or what it evolved into) wished to bestow onto her.
