Main reasons I got off the fence were A) it's 15/70, which is always an event and I'm not gonna pass on those opportunities while we still have them, and B) the mystery behind who Snoke is (or isn't) is eating away at me... I can't remember the last time a movie is a month away and we know almost nothing about the main villain.

Im almost over saturated with the comic book hero for all of the films they put out. So too many Star Wars films will take a lot of the want out of me seeing them.

It would be quite cool to make films in the timeline of KOTOR though.

Having spinoffs ad nauseum for the rest of time sounds like overkill. But I suppose as long as they're good, can't really complain. Still, I hope that means Disney/LFL stop being scared of the PT and make some spinoffs set in or before that time period.

Or specifically remake the prequel trilogy and relegate Ep.1-3 as they stand now to legends fodder.

If people don't like them, they don't have to watch them.

Remake the Prequel trilogy? Now there is an idea I can get behind.

Just too long for Donnie Darko to see it, unfortunately for him.

Ok so it is not CGI. Now what is your opinion?

Don't understand people who have a blanket hate for everything CGI and cannot even tell CGI vs. practical effects.

He's STILL going on about making those "experimental" films?

For the record, I never had any intentions of skipping it. The fact is, I am something of a movie buff, so it would be fairly incongruous to skip a major movie event (I sincerely hope it is not even "the biggest movie event in a year" let alone the decade). That being said, I am hoping to find the movie tolerable because anything more seems like hoping for a unicorn.

Almost oversaturated??!! Comic book movies have been oversaturated by 2008 AT THE LATEST. Star Wars will definitely go the same way, Disney is a corporation that needs money, and pumping out an infinite number of Marvel and Star Wars films is the way to do so, so I don't blame them.

Heck, Star Wars itself got oversaturated by 1980, no one needed a third film, let alone infinity more. Look at Crimson Rivers, a perfect example of a good way to handle a franchise:
  • two great films, and zero mediocre films, and zero bad films
  • Indeed, that's it. They didn't make a third film for no reason other than to introduce a race of creatures designed to sell toys. They aren't going to make a trilogy of astonishingly bad prequels in 20 years for no reason whatsoever. In 50 years, there will still just be the two films, standing there, for all to enjoy.
  • no asinine "Crimson Rivers expanded universe"
  • no line of "Crimson Rivers toys"
  • no rabid idiots committing a deification of Pierre Niemans (compare this to Han Solo, if he were real people would be queuing up to kiss his feet)
  • no people devoting their lives to it. Fans of the two Crimson Rivers movies watch them, say, "Ah, I love that film. Nice." AND THEN MOVE THE F*** ON WITH THEIR LIVES

Star Wars could have had this, they had two pretty great films as of 1980, if they stopped there, it would be better. Unfortunately, they went for the money grab (note: Again, I don't blame them for this. Much of life is a choice between artistic integrity and money, and Lucas chose the money. I do not begrudge him this for an instant). Although, that might have been predicted because the Holiday Special was already out by 1980. (indeed, you can add to the above list that there was no Crimson Rivers Holiday Special).

No, Star Wars will not stop. Yes, it will get oversaturated, quality will fall somewhat (not too much as there is not much left anyways), but most of the rabid fans (I know several) will remain rabid, seeing the movies not just once (as I admit I will do to stay in the loop) but several times, and then buying plastic shit (toys) and Blu-rays and building altars and so on.

Kevin, I like the Crimson Rivers films too.

But your using them as a direct comparison falls almost completely flat.

I literally laughed out loud at this. I don't know how funny others will find it, but I did just make a mild spectacle of myself (people did look over) in a public place. So congratulations.

But yeah. That's my point. Nobody wants to play with a Pierre Niemans figurine. Literally zero people watch a Crimson Rivers film and then have an urge to play with such a toy. It hasn't happened. It isn't happening. It doesn't happen. If there were such toys in toy shops, every single one would still be on the shelf.

And yet, people walk out of a Star Wars movie (even a good one) and head STRAIGHT FOR THE TOY SHOPS and buy asinine plastic trinkets and play with them (or, someone even worse, keep them in "mint condition" and never open the box). And, quite frankly, I don't know what's worse:
  • That people do this. or
  • That it occurred to companies that people would want to do this and they said "Well, money is important so if we are going to enable manchildren who cares" and went ahead and produced these toys in the first place.
It's a vicious circle, either way.
