I completely get what you're saying, and it is kinda ridiculous when you analyze it from the outside. But I am 100% guilty of buying all kinds of Star Wars memorabilia, it's the nostalgia, escapism, and fantasy that make Star Wars the marketing juggernaut that it is.
Nobody wants a Pierre Niemans action figure because it's just a boring normal detective dude, but Han Solo is a badass space smuggler who save princesses in his spare time. Yes, Return of the Jedi wasn't as good as the first two films and the prequel trilogy was pretty terrible...but maybe The Force Awakens will be amazing...we'll know soon enough. |

And yeah I can hope to like S7ar Wa7s but you have to be realistic about these things. Bonus points to people who caught the reference to another series which will incidentally also soon have 7 entries, and good ones at that! |

Disney and Lucasfilm aren't scared of the prequel trilogy. They have books and comics set during, around, and directly connected to the prequels. Their biggest theme park attraction has the prequels in it to a huge degree. There will be movies set during and after that and even before that time. They're just doing stuff that feels familiar again for older audiences who didn't enjoy the prequels. But there is more prequel time stuff to explore, and it will be. People just need to be patient, and enjoy what we have for now.

1. He sits on a massive throne of some sort 2. He's hooked up to some form of giant machine 3. He has a long, snake-like lower body which he can rise up on to make himself appear taller, kinda like a cobra 4. A hologram (Think like the huge Palpatine hologram in Empire, though I think this is unlikely since I can't imagine they'd need him to stand on a podium for that) Another interesting thing is that he refers to Snoke as "Lord", we haven't heard that title for him before. It reminds me of when he referred to the character as a "Sith general" many months ago. Is Serkis accidentally letting it slip that Snoke is in fact a Sith Lord, something that Abrams perhaps wants to remain a secret until the movie is playing in theaters? I thought the same thing, for how many years/decades has he been talking about these experimental films? I'd love to see him direct more movies in the same vein as THX (hopefully approaching the same level of quality) but I won't take him seriously until he actually does it and doesn't just say he will. |

Moreover, why does it matter what someone chooses to spend their money on? We live in a society where we're forced to work to have paper with numbers on them to be able to do anything. Nothing in life is necessary out side of food, drink, and shelter. All of which is free. You can grow your own food, and build your own shelter. So if people are forced to dedicate their lives, working forty hours or more a week doing mundane things that don't benefit survival in the slightest, why shouldn't they be allowed to spend their paper crap that means nothing on plastic crap that means nothing? Humanity has placed value on superfluous fluff. You might as well get used to it, since you're already a hypocrite. You're typing on either a computer or phone, neither of which is necessary to human survival, while being on an Internet forum dedicated to plastic disks that will someday erode, and will mean nothing to anyone in two hundred years.. So I'll repeat my question one last time: why does any of this matter to you? |

Okay, so the discussion has largely moved on, and the last thing I want to do is be a stick in the mud or keep rehashing the same conversations, so I am going use to respond to those who responded to me and that may be it unless more people say stuff worth further response. I will use a spoiler tag though so those sick of me

I think that Lucas had balls the size of grapefruits to pull that off. Irvin Kershner said that he had to suggest to the audience that 'There would be more' as the film ended. Interesting that none of the prequels dared go for such a cliffhanger move. Last edited by TheWildWhelk; 11-19-2015 at 09:51 AM. |

I just gotta say, it's very refreshing to see Harrison Ford having so much fun. Just got done watching a Star Wars promo and to see him having fun and interacting with the fans makes me re-appreciate Harrison Ford all over again.
