I think I speak for all Blu insiders.
You're not just speaking for all Blu insiders Max.... This type of argument has been around for centuries!

Description of Ad Hominem

Translated from Latin to English, "Ad Hominem" means "against the man" or "against the person."

An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:

1. Person A makes claim X.
2. Person B makes an attack on person A.
3. Therefore A's claim is false.

The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (in most cases) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).

With that said, thanks to all our insiders for giving us factual information regardless of your 'real names'.

Paidgeek,

There are many members on Blu-ray.com who purchased Resident Evil 3. There seems to be an issue with the audio where it displays Dolby Digital instead of True-HD. It seems that many of the people who are having the problem are using the Panasonic BD30 and Onkyo receiver. In my case I have the BD 30 and Integra 9.8 and my setup has the audio issue. I have not had any problems with any other Blu-ray disks so far. Do you have an idea for what the problem could be?

TIA

Default A question

So what happens IF warner goes blu ex? Does that mean all of the hd ex studios will start spitting out all their content on blu-ray the next day or ever? And if the do will we experience all the same problems that warner gave us with their blu-ray discs...for a while untill they start releasing day/date with dvds? I just don't want to get my hopes up on getting some of my fav universal movies on blu-ray anytime soon IF warner goes blu soon. Thanx.

What has been said here that puts HD DVD near death?
Was there some major announcement recently I missed?

Talk,
If BD-J/Live is so easy to develop for once and then reuse everywhere the extended API/frameworks as has been implied (or maybe even explicitly stated before), then why would BD-J/Live be reserved for only those "worthy" titles instead of taking advantage of the advanced interactivity being the norm and not the exception?

Thank You

This is off-topic, but it is a question for an Insider. Max, is your girlfriend Chesty La Rue, Busty St. Claire, or Hooty McBoob?

Hey, you are Maxpower!

Have you looked at the numbers for the past year? All blu. The whole year, blu. Now that's not a major announcment, but it has merit. And hold weight.

In other words I anticipate an abundance of good Blu-ray news starting within the next few days which, in total, will make the eventual outcome clear.

That's pretty big news.

I'm actually torn on what he meant with that first line. Did he mean that Exclusive Studio Support announcement is a given before CES or at CES so everything else won't be groundbreaking.

Or did he mean, there is absolutely no announcements of exclusive studio support before or at CES so without that the other announcements won't be format war ending?

Just wanted to say I laughed out loud when I read that. Well played, Talk!

Wading through the rubbish of so many of the red ants I've long had on ignore at AVS was bad, but that made it all worth it.

Maxpower1987: welcome back.

to all insiders: I have to say this is probably the most I've been excited about the format war aside from the Sept rumor, I hope things going great for Blu at CES, and from what I'm hearing it will be...

Insider questions:

If there is some truth to the rumors that a lot of people are mistakenly buying HD DVDs thinking they are compatible with DVD players and that a lot of these are returned, how are those numbers counted? Do they subtract off the returns at any point? Or do the sales just get counted and there's accounting for what happens after that?

On the same note, there are some stories that a lot of HD DVD players are being returned. Do those returns get subtracted off the sales?

Are there any stats available on HD DVD vs. Blu-ray returns, for software or hardware?

Commentary on previous insider questions:

As for the LOTR questions, I doubt Penton is going to tell us whether halflings are going to make a visit or not and if it will be an extended one. I think his comment about not focusing on the trees and instead seeing things from the perspective of riding on an eagle above the forest is the best clue we're going to get from him, if it is in fact a clue at all.

Well, I'd hope he'd at least say "No comment" or "I don't know" instead of just leaving me hanging. I mean, it can't hurt to ask, right?

Edit: I'm not trying to imply that he has left me hanging, just that he will at least tell us something, even if it ends up being little to no useful information at all. :P
