Look at the PS3's 1.1 update. It popped up very quickly after there was a 1.1 Panasonic player available. Sony has not waited for long periods of time for previous updates, why would they wait months and months for these?

Of course I could be completely wrong, but I don't see why the policy would change from past examples. Certainly we PS3 owners will have to wait, but I don't see why it would be any longer than it takes for a 2.0, DTS HD MA internal player to hit the market. Sony is playing nice with other CE manufacturers, but they are still trying to be competitive.

Chris
Exactly. I would like to hear the opinion of an insider, but last time I checked Sony and Panasonic and Sharp and Samsung are competitors, and Sony is not going to hold back to gift market share to others.

I believe that Silicon Image have confirmed that the PS3 is not capable of bitstream output of DTS Master Audio. So it will have to be internally decoded for it to be heard.

Your best bet is the Geffen splitter shown at CES. You plug in the HDMI from the PS3 to it, and it has a HDMI output and 8 channel analog out for use with old receivers. Price is supposed to be ~400. Perfect for the PS3.

400 For that i'll get the HDMI reciever or a standalone player.

Thanks for the info, didn't know anything about that, looking at it anyways.

Penton, Max, Paidgeek or any insider.

Do any of you care to comment on this further proof of Toshiba's stupidty:

http://prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/storie...4735440&EDATE=

Unfortunately, it seems to support what DV was telling me on friday.

See here

Seriously, whats it gonna take for the BDA to permanently destroy this cancer that Toshiba has now become for HDM?

I wouldn't be too worry about it. It's probably an exit strategy disguised as a new marketing initiative. The main goal is to sell as much inventory as possible. It's a Hail Mary play at best. The BDA will counter by clearing ALL profile 1.0 players at clearance prices.

I am not an Insider but I did stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Yah, I would really like to hear from an insider on this. Personally I would assume it is a firesale, but there is the possibility that Toshiba has rallied the troops and is making a last ditch effort to catch on.

As I said in my little explosion in the other thread, I think this little spitwad in the face of BD is the signal for the take no prisoners, no holds barred portion of events.

It came to me after writing that post that, if this is not a last ditch effort to part with hardware while they can, that this might be the last straw for fed up retaillers. I noticed that shortly after Toshiba swore up and down that their consultations with retaillers had shown that they had strong support, quotes came out from top level folks at some of the biggest retaillers that ran directly counter to this statement.

Also as I said in the other post, this does not make me any less certain of the ultimate outcome in this war, but the total ignorance of reality for nothing more than saving face just really galls me. How many more folks that don't really know what is going on are going to happily walk out of stores with a ticking time bomb of obsolescence in their arms?

Chris

Most technologies are ticking bombs of obsolescence ...some have shorter fuses than others.

Warner was D-Day, This latest Toshiba firesale is the battle of the bulge, and by the end of spring, just like Allies vs. Nazis in 1945, Blu-ray will end HD DVD's miserable life.

Funny how you drag this into WWII territory - check this out:
